Americans who have been out of work for a year or more are much more likely to be obese than those unemployed for a shorter time. The obesity rate rises from 22.8% among those unemployed for two weeks or less to 32.7% among those unemployed for 52 weeks or more.

Ah, the theory of drowning your sorrows in food again. My only question would be as to the number who were obese at the onset of unemployment.

Let’s face it, the obese pose a greater healthcare risk and employers don’t want the added cost of their insurance and lost time due to medical problems. With a greater pool of potential hirees, I would do all in my legal and personal power to find healthy(ier) employees.

I’ve been obese since my mid 20’s and have NEVER had a problem finding a job in a few days. I call bull$#*+ on this one. It’s attitude, folks.
