Jeb Bush for Veep?
National Journal ^ | 6/16/14 | Tom DeFrank

Posted on 06/18/2014 2:18:30 PM PDT by jimbo123

Speculation among Republican strategists is that Bush won’t run for president in 2016, but might be willing to be a strong conservative’s running mate.

Even before Eric Cantor’s seismic loss to a political novice backed by the tea party last week, many Republican elders had concluded that Jeb Bush, who really wants to become the third President Bush, won’t run in 2016.

The emerging consensus explains why some of these party mandarins have launched a new political boomlet touting the ex-Florida governor: Jeb for Veep.

At first the notion seems a little weird. While a reliable ideological conservative, Bush is a dreaded mainstream Republican. Worse yet for many on the Right, he’s a fervent booster of comprehensive immigration reform. That provokes apoplexy among many tea-party faithful and other GOP conservatives.

With Cantor’s defeat blamed in part on his apparent willingness to entertain a middle ground on immigration, Bush as second banana on a ticket headed by a more conservative Republican would seem to be a nonstarter.

Not so fast, some GOP heavy-hitters maintain.

“Jeb would be perfectly acceptable to the base if the nominee is a proven conservative,” said a prominent Republican consultant.

The sooner we stick to ‘NO!” with the exclamation point, the sooner we can get conservatives into power.

That’s the worst part of Reagans legacy. He took on a Bush and it wound up undoing everything he did. I swear by all that’s holy, I will not vote for another Bush.

Interesting trial balloon. Note that the week after the weasel’s loss, the crony capitalists are talking another Bush for VP. I guess they’ve gotten the message that they aren’t likely to get the top slot, so they’re triangulating.

I think the “conservative” they’re suggesting is Mitt Romney, the severely severe conservative. Romney-Bush 2016. Barf!

If you mean to replace Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the HBO show, then sure (though he'd have to get in line after Joe Biden).

If you're talking about something else, I don't think so. The Republican advantage next time is going to be that they aren't the same old same old thing as usual. Nominate a Bush and you lose that.

Jebbie’s wife is 100% Mexican and he has such a soft spot for Mexicans that VP in Mexico is a good spot for him.

Let him convince Mexico they should provide amnesty for all the illegals coming over their southern border.

The Democrats nominated William Jennings Bryan three times. In 1924 they tried putting his brother Charles on the ticket as the VP candidate. It didn't help much--they won something like 29% of the popular vote (against Calvin Coolidge, with Robert Lafollette running as a third-party candidate).

Other than possibly helping to carry Florida, it's hard to see how Jeb could help. But with his surname he could probably lead people to vote against the ticket.

Why Jeb for Veep? What constituency would he bring?

I’m more afraid of the more likely Deval Patrick for Veep—of the other team. Hillary/Deval — Woman + Black—that’s their dream team.

Only a brain-dead republican would support the Jebster.
The base would stay home as they did with Mittens who had no core beliefs. Yeah, try that again. They are like drug addicts to power/ won’t come to reality to understand that the base doesn’t trust them any longer. Most of their base would like to kick these creeps to the curb :)
