Obama Tells Congressional Leaders He Won’t Seek Authority for Next Steps on Iraq
The National Journal ^ | Wednesday, June 18, 2014 | Elahe Izadi

President Obama told top members of Congress on Wednesday that he won't need to ask for congressional permission for the next steps he will take on the crisis in Iraq.

"The president just basically briefed us on the situation in Iraq, indicated he didn't feel he had any need for authority from us for steps he might take, and indicated he would keep us posted," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters after a White House meeting about Iraq.

While top Republicans had been highly critical of Obama earlier in the week for not providing a plan on Iraq, the tenor of their criticism has died down. McConnell characterized the meeting by saying they "had a good discussion."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had said Tuesday that the administration doesn't "need any more authority than they already have to do whatever they need to do there."

Yup. He’s sooooo much better than having a Democrat alright. How would a Dem do anything less to stop him and hold him to account than this?

Despite no signs from the White House that it will formally ask Congress for authority to take any kind of military action, there are pledges to keep leaders informed.

Yeah, that worked out so well the last time.

On this point, he is actually correct.

He is technically Commander in Chief and does not need to consult Congress.

However, he is blurring the lines in general, since he disregards Congress on things like appointments where he is obliged to seek counsel.

I think you are wrong on that. He has authority to act for 90 days,, following that, he needs congressional approval.

The dumbass should have ordered bombing of those truck convoys the first day or two of the invasion. And this week we have seen US supplied Humvees loaded onto large trucks and captured tanks being convoyed back to Syria. There won’t be a more obvious target of opportunity.

If he wanted all that captured US equipment taken back to Syria safely, he’d do just what he’s been doing: Nothing.

He's got 90 days of authority.

I believe we went well beyond that in Libya.

So, I Barry acts without Congress and what he does is a disaster (which is the norm for him), how is this former President Bush’s fault?

Obama and the rest of the White House Fudge Packers will do everything they can to disempower the USA, and reduce our nations power around the world.

Thats why Obama will not need to consult Congress on his next steps on Iraq.
