(MA)House approves $11 minimum wage bill
WWLP ^

Many Massachusetts workers could see a little more money in their paychecks as early as next year.

Last week, the Massachusetts Senate agreed to raise the minimum wage to $11.00 per hour and on Wednesday, the House of Representatives agreed.

The vote means that Massachusetts will be one step closer to having the highest statewide minimum wage in the country. Under the bill, the minimum wage would be increased over three years, with no tie to inflation.

Although the Senate gave their approval last week, not all House members agree it’s a good idea.

“This minimum wage was never intended to actually be a livable wage for someone; it’s supposed to be a stepping stone to the next job in the progression of your career, so we need real jobs,” said Rep. Nick Boldyga (R-Southwick), a member of the Committee on Labor and Workforce.

Massachusetts legislators, in their lust to generate votes for themselves, will only generate inflation and a worsening business climate.

I’m sorry to hear that you are losing your job, matt04.

This bill, if it passes, will result in much more of that.

Years ago, I used to enjoy stopping by local shops for a coffee, a bagel, a danish or even a full lunch. I do that very rarely now because prices have risen and money is tight. If this bill passes I won’t be doing it at all because all the local shops will be closed.

So this will mean that the minimum wage for state and local government paycheck recipients will be #30/hr...and for teachers it will be $40.

I should have phased that different. I’m not, but the idiots that went to school for “feminine and genders studies” who work at Starbucks or what not will.

If amnesty passes, red states will need a higher minimum wage than blue states. Plus a sales tax instead of an income tax.

Plenty more where they came from - in New York, California, D.C., Connecticut, and all around the US.

Folks, think about the minimum wage for a second. Dissect the term itself, minimum wage.

Why do Democrats and leftists always want people to work and get by the bare minimum? Why do they want them scraping by and struggling?

The debate should not be over a minimum wage, but of an unlimited wage. Republicans and conservatives - stop accepting the Left's narrative of the minimum wage and start advocating for people to make as much money as they legally can without barriers.

It all starts here Jack.
Harvard should be deemed an insane asylum.

The MA Legislature is not Harvard, they need to be in jail.

The Kennedy’s poisoned this state, and their minions have destroyed the country.

So well said it needs to be said again.

“Massachusetts legislators, in their lust to generate votes for themselves, will only generate inflation and a worsening business climate.”

Places trying to raise the minimum wage are trying to stop the flight of people being “priced out” (particularly the young people they need to provide for their non-working populations), while at the same time raising their payroll tax revenues.

This is a stealthy way for the federal government to raise social security revenues without increasing the payouts tied to inflation; Obama supports minimum wage increases without mentioning those receiving SS.

It needs to be said every time, but the minimum wage raises aren’t about the minimum wage, but about union wages, which are tied to the minimum wage. MA, being a “Blue” state, has unions that are just shy of organized crime syndicates, and this is nothing more than a payoff to them.
