A Model Town for 'Gun Safety'
American Thinker ^ | 6/19/2014 | Scott Mayer

Posted on 06/19/2014 2:57:42 AM PDT by markomalley

Michael Bloomberg’s group “Everytown for Gun Safety” recently released a map claiming there have been 74 school shootings in the U.S. since the horrifying Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. The map was widely (and without hesitation) displayed by newsrooms all across America. The only problem is the map turns out to be a fraud and has been thoroughly debunked:

The saga of the fraudulent map of “school shootings” pumped out by Michael Bloomberg’s “Everytown for Gun Safety” group is fascinating, especially given how quickly the fraud was exposed and destroyed. This group was caught in a lie, pure and simple… and the lie went down so hard that CNN got in on the act.

Let's forget about “Everytown” for a moment and instead focus on just one town – Chicago. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, yet in 2012 it had the distinct honor of being named the murder capital of the United States. In Chicago, one needn’t ask, If a gun spontaneously goes off in a forest, is within five miles of a school and no one is around to get shot, can the data still be used in an Everytown map? There’s just no need go back two years and torture data to make it look like there were 74 school shootings – that same number can be achieved by going back less than two months (April 19th through June 15th), where there were 74 actual homicides (not just manufactured school shootings) using a gun within the city, as chronicled by a Chicago Tribune-owned website that keeps track of such data.

Michael Bloomberg is, quite plainly, an egomaniac who is willing to perpetrate any fraud possible in order to further his wildly out-of-control self-aggrandizement.

It’s no surprise that his little map is a complete fiction.

Someone firing their BB gun within a designated school zone is almost considered a “school shooting”.

They don't really want to talk about crime in Detroit these days for some reason.

The Chief of Police in Detroit supports citizen’s rights to arm and defend themselves, and violent crime drops. This will certainly *not* be reported by the MSM!

Detroit has been a gun friendly city for several years but the appointment of Craig was a tipping point. Between telling the people the truth about his inability to protect them, making the department more effective, and showing the people that they won’t go to jail for defending themselves, it really changed the direction.

It shows that things can change with the right leadership. I wish Ben Carson would return to Detroit and run for Mayor and start driving social issues to the right.

Wow! Average response time is almost 10 MINUTES! Sit and watch your computer clock for 10 minutes. That’s seriously an eternity for a violent criminal. Hell, most rapists could be done with their deed and on to a second victim in the time it takes them to get to the first caller.

That being said, I would actually like to see a “gun free” community enacted. Plop down a fenced-in, gated community somewhere in Texas near the border or in southern California. Sell the homes and properties with the notice that firearms are not permitted, period. I would genuinely like to see this done if for no other reason than a social experiment. Catalog violent crime rates and take surveys from the residents on a regular basis.

My bet is it takes fewer than 18 months for that community to be overrun by violent crime. If not, you’d see regular police activity and calls for tighter security at the gates. If people want to know what it was like to live in the Warsaw ghetto, this might be an apt experiment.

I’ll take freedom every day.

Before Craig came to town it was an hour or more.

Tom Brokaw was happy to tout this fraud in his daily radio spot and a call for gun control.

The shooting of criminals by victims in Detroit has been a very underrated factor in the turnaround of Detroit. While Detroit has to go an extremely long way, without this new sensibility of self-responsibility, there would not even be a start.

Last time I dialed 911 in Mongomery County (People's Republic Of Maryland), the wait was 20 minutes.

Response time here would probably be in the 40 minute range since we don’t have local cops. They come from the county or state.

One of the things I like about Chief Craig is the fact that he actually tells people. “When seconds count, we’re minutes away”

He’s done some good things. He cut the mayor’s security detail from 20 officers to 6. Stopped the personal preference promotions and started giving promotions based on merit. He ended the virtual precinct program which was basically overstaffed precincts that were open during low crime hours and closed during high crime hours.

Ted Nugent was born in the Detroit area but he lived in the same rural farm community I grew up in. (Hanover/Concord area) My cousin was dating Nugent’s ex wife when she was killed.
