What Iraq's war may mean for the Keystone pipeline
CNBC ^ | 18 Jun 2014 | Javier E. David

Supporters of the Keystone XL pipeline have found a new talking point: Iraq

Violence exploding in one of the world's largest oil-producing nations is ricocheting in the debate over U.S. energy policy. Backers of the pipeline, which would run from Alberta, Canada, to Texas, are pointing to the crisis in Iraq as a rationale for pushing the project forward.

Often billed as a possible component for supplying the U.S.'s voracious energy markets with crude oil, TransCanada's long-delayed $5.3 billion pipeline has been mired in delays for six years.

On Wednesday, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee voted 12-10 to advance a bill that would force the pipeline's approval. The vote takes place against a backdrop of rising oil prices, instability in oil-producing countries, and a domestic shale boom that remains a political hot potato in more ways than one.

But there’s a clown in the White House with a pen and a phone.

Keystone will be approved. Obama’s fiddling will allow the Middle East to erupt, gas prices will skyrocket, America has NO energy policy.

This will reverse curbs on coal, fracking will open up, offshore and ANWR drilling will commence, new refineries will be built.

It won’t come easy, high oil prices will cripple our already slow economy.

Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee voted 12-10

************
All ten Republicans and only two Dems (Landrieu and Manchin who are under severe political pressures) voted for this. This vote pretty much shows that Dems don’t care what you pay for energy.

Not to worry, it now looks like the Canadians are going to build that pipeline to their west coast. Probably more efficient in the long run to ship the crude direct to China than to pipeline it to Texas to be refined by American workers then shipped to China. Besides, we all know the Chinese refineries are at least a thousand times cleaner than the American refineries. NOT!

Pushing the Canadian pipe west won’t be easy.

new refineries will be built

We already refine more product than use in the US. There is not a refinery shortage, but there is a stupid multitude of different recipes due to government requirements.

Back in the 1970s, the Alaska Pipeline was shelved because the Enviros were screaming about the damage to the ecology of Alaska.

I said that when the Arabs embargo oil again, the pipeline would be built.

“No it won’t”, said some of the Enviros.

The Arabs embargoed the oil, the pipeline was built over the screams and weeping and wailing of the Enviros.

The damage to the environment did not occur.

I never understood, since we had enough oil,
in WW2, to send it to the Russkies, and still fight a
two theater war, why America smooches the
posterior of an Arab, for oil.

Interior oil supplies mean greater national security, right?

Our demand has gone up quite a bit since WW2.
