Gen. Hayden: The State of Iraq Is Gone
NewsMax ^ | 18 Jun 2014 | Bill Hoffmann and Melissa Clyne

The country of Iraq is, for all intents and purposes, dead and has been replaced by three successor states, former CIA director Gen. Michael Hayden told Newsmax TV Wednesday.

"The state of Iraq as we know it is gone, and it's not going to be reconstituted," he told "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"We've got three successor states there now," Hayden, a retired four star Air Force general added. "As much as we might look for opportunities to keep Iraq together, we need to be prepared for the reality that it's not going to stay together.

"We should snuggle up comfortable with the Kurds in Kurdistan, who have always been pro-American and actually have a functioning society and state right now.

We should give help to the Maliki government, sufficient to settle the current conflict so it just doesn't turn into a humanitarian disaster," Hayden said.

"For example, there's fighting around Beiji right now, the oil refinery north of Baghdad. Baghdad needs that for that part of the country to survive, and so we've got to settle the lines of this conflict in a way that Nouri al-Maliki's surviving state, which I'll call Shiastan, has Beiji within it.

"Then we've got Sunnistan, and that's the state under the control of ISIS right now, and frankly, we've got to treat that as if it were a safe haven for terrorists and begin to think about it the way we had thought about Waziristan for the last decade-plus. That's a tough message, and I'm afraid that's where we are.

"Now we're at a point where we really don't have good options," Hayden told Malzberg.

Hayden said "Sunnistan" consists of western Iraq and eastern Syria. "There is no border now," he said.

“Sunnistan” should be divided into Eastern and Western Glassistan.

“Therefore their desires should have been ignored. “

I could not agree more, but Bush had difficult realities to fancy-foot around. One is that Turkey is a member of NATO. Another is we have permanent bases there. Still another issue was not further enflaming all the other stuff going on to which Turkey is a party. I think he did what he could. Also, he left significant forces at sea off Turkey and probably got the word through the intel circles that Turkey was trying to get Saddam to shift his northern forces to Kuwait. The Turks probably helped in that, as they had no love for Saddam.

Turkey is trying to re-vamp the Ottoman empire. They are not friends of the other Arabs in the neighborhood and still may play a significant role in Iraq and Syria.

We do cooperate intel-wise with Turkey. Though at this point I wouldn’t share much sensitive stuff with them after what they did to Israel. (Wiped out Israel’s in-place Iranian team by telling the Iranians who they were. Israel and Turkey used to be close when Turkey was secular. The Israelis were meeting their team members in Turkey.)

If only he’d had known that a great big ZerØ would follow him. His promiss might have been kept.

As for your last: Drill baby, drill! And keep it in country. No exports! No imports either. Let’s throw the oil market into a tizzy.

Perhaps his one correct idea and he was probably repeating it anyway.

One principle should guide this mess. Water seeks its own level and sometimes a dam can’t stop it.

>No exports! No imports either.<

.
Ha! American oil producers would NEVER agree with that decision.

You have the welfare of America in mind, they have their own welfare (stockholders) in mind.

Stocks have to go up, up, up! And you can’t do that without exports.

Yea, well. Speaking as an American, I do have our wealfare in mind. And no, I wouldn’t expect TPTB to follow such a path. At least not the current bunch of traitors.

We gotta start somewhere, everywhere, and keep hammering them the same - better - than they’ve been hammering us.

We’re running out of civil options.

The Communist group is the PKK, or KGK, depending on what translation you use, they operate on the Turkish/Iraqi Border, launching attacks into Turkey. The major Iraqi Kurdish groups are the KDP (Kurdish Democratic Party) and the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) They are the dominant Kurdish political factions controlling Northern Iraq.

The Iraqi Kurdish Government has allowed for several years limited Turkish incursions into their territory for the Turks to target the PKK, as neither side particularly likes them.

Ya think? I felt it was gone a long time ago. But it just took time to become real news.

Time for a non-interventionist policy: not because we oppose interventionism, but because the people cannot be trusted to vote in a POTUS who will follow thru on predecessor’s interventions. Better nobody expect such involvement, than to rely on it only to have an Obama abandon them.

Just a thought.

How are they to train folks to fight when their professional military armed with the best of everything and unlimited ammo just dropped their armaments and equipment and ran. Those that surrendered or were identified on the run were unceremoniously machine gunned in ditches. VN rule applies: If they won’t fight for their country they are not worth fighting for.

“The country of Iraq is, for all intents and purposes, dead and has been replaced by three successor states, former CIA director Gen. Michael Hayden told Newsmax TV Wednesday. “

Neither he nor the rest of the intel community saw this coming, but they continue to be pretty good at stating the obvious after it’s already happened.

Obama has painted a target on the backs of those brave men that he has sent to Iraq. Think The 300 who fought bravely and well against enormous odds, yet they all were killed in the end.

Adios Iraq and hello to Kurdistan, Shiastan and Sunnistan.

“The state of Iraq as we know it is gone, and it’s not going to be reconstituted,” he told “The Steve Malzberg Show.”

“We’ve got three successor states there now,” Hayden, a retired four star Air Force general added. “As much as we might look for opportunities to keep Iraq together, we need to be prepared for the reality that it’s not going to stay together.

“We should snuggle up comfortable with the Kurds in Kurdistan, who have always been pro-American and actually have a functioning society and state right now.

We should give help to the Maliki government, sufficient to settle the current conflict so it just doesn’t turn into a humanitarian disaster,” Hayden said.

“For example, there’s fighting around Beiji right now, the oil refinery north of Baghdad. Baghdad needs that for that part of the country to survive, and so we’ve got to settle the lines of this conflict in a way that Nouri al-Maliki’s surviving state, which I’ll call Shiastan, has Beiji within it.

“Then we’ve got Sunnistan, and that’s the state under the control of ISIS right now, and frankly, we’ve got to treat that as if it were a safe haven for terrorists and begin to think about it the way we had thought about Waziristan for the last decade-plus. That’s a tough message, and I’m afraid that’s where we are.

Hayden said “Sunnistan” consists of western Iraq and eastern Syria. “There is no border now,” he said.

Our Sunni Potus must be very happy.
