Its hard to believe how much things have changed in less than 20 years. There are several reasons for this. First, many conservatives have dropped out of the fight. Its not hard to understand why. Our two-party system does not give us many options. While there are differences between the Democrats and Republicans, the differences arent great enough. Second, as Lord Acton (18341902) observed, Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men. Consider Republican congressman Peter King from New York. Republicans cant allow the primary defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to open the door for the Ted Cruzes and the Rand Pauls to take over the GOP, Rep. Peter King said. Cantors defeat in Virginias Republican primary Tuesday to economics professor Dave Brat sent shock waves through political circles. Brat walked away with the primary win with 55.5 percent of the vote to Cantors 45.5 percent. Polls leading into the election showed Cantor with a healthy lead over Brat. King told MSNBCs Morning Joe the approach of fellow Republican Sen. Cruz of Texas tarnished the partys brand when he led the shutdown of the government in October. King said the overwhelming majority of the country thought lawmakers were crazy and irresponsible to have allowed it to happen. We now know that the shutdown had almost no effect on peoples lives. This is what bothers politicians like King. If that much government is not needed, then why do people like King have so much power? King and those like him have been corrupted by power. Power can be dangerous even in the hands of good people because they believe their intentions to help the less fortunate are righteous and just. Jesus never issued a call to plunder the rich...

There are politicians and there are statesmen. When the former outnumber the latter, the country gets in trouble.
Good thing Acton used “almost” with respect to “great men”. But what he should have added was not mere power is the corrupting factor, but power coupled with lack of accountability, and of course lack of character.
Too hard to read, try using paragraphs.........
Forgive me, did not notice. Just copied and pasted. Always worked before. Mea culpa.

Excellent point. The Soviets did exactly that.
Sodomites are “gay.” Liberals/Marxists are “progressives.”
Criticism of homosexual behavior is “hate speech.” Criticism of 0bama is “racist.”
Our definitions, such as with marriage or any level of citizenship, are crucial to who and what we are as a nation and the path we will follow.
Our definitions should be honest, true and consistent and our efforts should be to strengthen our definitions, not forever weaken them, especially not for temporary gain.
But weaken them we do and with each one, such as with redefining marriage or natural born/native born/anchor baby citizenship, we don't just lose ourselves, we give ourselves away.
Not really, no one is actually buying this garbage except a few retarded college kids. There is only six people in America that claim to be offended by the name Redskins.
Contrary to Chris Matthews hating people for their skin color (whether done by Caucasian or black) is racism. Racism is not saying "let's cut taxes," despite what corrupt Democratic politicians might say.
I don’t even know what is is anymore..................
“Peter” is sometimes used to describe a part of the male anatomy. No wonder his name is Peter King.
"Retarded college kids" were the shock troops for Mao's "Cultural Revolution."
True but those chinese kids didn’t grow up getting suspended for biting a piece of cheese into a pistol shape.
