Archbishop Cordileone doubles down on gay marriage stance
SFGate.com ^ | 6/19/14 | C. W. Nevius

Same-sex marriage isn't a debate in San Francisco. It's state law. Same-sex marriages take place every day in the city, including at City Hall.

That's why, despite all the heat he's getting, it is puzzling that San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone continues to stubbornly insist on speaking at the March for Marriage on Thursday in Washington, D.C.

A long list of local politicians and community leaders, including Mayor Ed Lee, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, have signed letters imploring Cordileone not to participate in the divisive, politically charged event.

***

Cordileone is flying across the country as the only announced representative of the Catholic Church to participate in an event that surely has little support in San Francisco. If the archbishop would like to take on gang violence or homelessness - the church-affiliated St. Vincent de Paul homeless shelter is one of the largest in the city - that would be fine.

But the fact is that this marriage crusade is his issue, not San Francisco's. There may be a place where his views would represent the community. This isn't it.

Time for Cordileone to move on from San Francisco.

They deserve more ridicule than they currently get. It would torpedo their snooty snot bladders.

One thing you can say for the Archbishop. He is hated by all those who just know they are on the right side of history. I consider that a very good sign

The so called progressive confidence is so much Dutch courage. No I take that back, that would be an insult to Dutch courage.

It’s noteworthy that whites are about 48% of the population of San Francisco, and if you combine Hispanics and Asians, there are just about as many of them as there are whites.

Plus, very few (heterosexual) whites who live there are having children. So the city is ripe for demographic change. While initially it will be dominated by Asians, the demographic change will eventually be heavily Hispanic.

A large number of whom are Catholic, of a lot better variety of Catholic than are some of the whites there, like Nancy Pelosi.

This is just how socialists in their bubbles, babble.

Isolated bubbles don't worry me.

Bubble baths worry me.

Because of course San Francisco should be able to determine and define moral and natural truth for everyone... How dare anyone believe differently from the politically correct line.

Well we can’t exactly “raise ourselves” from sin, but we CAN permit Him to lift us.

We can resist mightily (and most of us, if we are honest, do that most of the time) but His grace is stroner than our resistance.

The point being that the idea of raising oneself up to God’s level is at best a hypocritical game. A surfeit of grace buoys up the believer.

Dear Mr. Nevius:

1. We had (and I would have said until relatively recently settled) this discussion two-hundred-some years ago. Religious belief and practice are not subject to majority rule, and the elected worthies (heh) you list don’t get to tell any of their constituents what to believe or what to do about it, let alone the archbishop of San Francisco.

2. And I realize you in the news business think so very well of yourselves and your power, but neither do you. Let alone the lovely specimens who comment on your website.

3. Has it ever occurred to the whole lot of you in The City, press, politicians and public, that Bishop Cordileone’s appointment wasn’t the act of a senile, sheltered or absent-minded old man, that Pope Benedict knew perfectly well about both San Francisco’s reputation and His Excellency’s, and therefore knew exactly how you’d react if he translated His Excellency across the Bay Bridge...and did it anyway? Has it ever occurred to you, in short, that this appointment was in fact His Holiness’ way of saying

RATZ: HOW ARE YOU GENTLEMEN!!
RATZ: ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US.

You must have missed all of Archbishop Cordileone’s happenings, with Nancy Pelosi trying to excommunicate him.

Archbishop Cordileone has a spine to stand up to the homosexual crowd and March in the March for Marriage. He also addressed them. There are numerous threads on FR.

Next time you may want to do your FR homework before you post.

This was a pan-Christian protest. Google for the March and you see all kind of condescending claptrap from the liberal presses (e.g. Slate claiming that it was in “denial.”)

Why is that puzzling? He doesn’t do what the state tells him is right, and instead follows his conscience and God, and that’s puzzling?? I’d say the propagandist (either that or he’s the stupidest reporter on his side of the Mississippi) reconsider that NOT EVERYONE follows the left-wing line just because Govt, and Obamy tell them so.

There may be a place where his views would represent the community. This isn't it.

Please, somebody explain to this moron that Apb. Cordileone is not there to "represent the community". He's there to represent Jesus Christ.

Time for Cordileone to move on from San Francisco.

Someone should also explain to this moron that Catholic bishops are appointed by the Pope, and we already have one of those. He lives in Rome, not SF.
