TheBlackHomeSchool.com is a project created by Dr. Boyce Watkins and Nomalanga Mhlauli-Moses, two college professors who are deeply committed to helping parents occupy the education of African American children. For far too long, black children have been mis-educated and undereducated by failing public schools, leading to a crisis of opportunity within the African American community.
So, working with leading scholars such as Dr. Christopher Emdin, Dr. Steve Perry, Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Tyra Seldon, Mhlauli-Moses and Watkins are seeking to bring educators to the black community to provide resources and information for parents seeking to ensure that their children are getting a quality education.
This project is a product of the New Paradigm for Black America, a set of ideologies designed to help black people find 21st century solutions to 21st century problems. Two key tenets of the New Paradigm model are that a) Every black child should be homeschooled, even if they go to school some place else and b) Every black child should learn the basics of entrepreneurship, even if they work for someone else. This means that it is our job as parents to educate our children at night, during weekends and during summer vacation, using the Internet as a tool to help them obtain the information they will never receive in public school. Educating our own children, along with making our own money, are two of the keys to black empowerment in the 21st century.
If we don’t properly educate our children, then who will? Every parent is a teacher, whether they acknowledge this or not. Let us help you grow your children into the best they can be.
The revolution won’t be televised, it’s happening on the Internet. Let’s educate our children TOGETHER.
This text has a goofiness to it, but if they get down to business with phonics and memorizing math facts, I’m all for it.

I understand that Houston Independent School District stripped some funding from several highly successful charter/magnet schools and sent the money to other schools which weren’t doing well. Lots of parents really upset. Plus everyone at HISD got a 3% raise.
So glad I don’t live in Houston any more - this budget is $1.74B, City of Houston budget is slightly in excess of $2.0B. Guess what’s going to happen to everyone’s taxes!

Yes, but then you see Cornel West’s name there (the only one I recognize) and you start to lose hope.
Although I 100% agree with what you say.
My mother used to say if you’d give her a card table (remember those?), some legal pads and pencils she’d get any kid from K-3 with no problem.
I think after that the math would start to get away from her, but there are others who could serve.
Education in the US is a disgrace, ruined by the commie front teachers unions (yeah I said it).
Not every child can become a brain surgeon, but all can be taught to read, to do basic math.
The dems have willfully mis-educated (or un-educated, the way Lenny Bruce would say un-f*** you, because isn’t f*** you a basically positive wish?) 3 generations.
Those were their base of African American voters they did that to.
The Hispanics better get wise, because they are next, in the crosshairs.

Parents of every color- get your kids out of the public school system.
Black parents home school their kids? A pathetic joke. The average educational achievement of many black adults is not beyond grade school level. Millions of black adults are functionally illiterate. Sorry, the best hope of the great majority of black children is to get them away from their mostly uninterested parents and into schools with strict rules and discipline.
Better chance for the kids than in the soon to become illegal immigrant loaded public schools.
More bashing of the public schools when Asians in exactly the same schools do just fine. Look up Oakland High in Oakland, CA and see who the Merit Scholars have been in a multi-racial public school.
At some point, respect for education is the responsibility of the home and child.

Will the Obama administration soon go after homeschooling?
In fact it's about 90% or better home and child. If the parents and the child are motivated, the child will learn no matter how lousy the school and the teachers. But the best schools and teachers in the world can't motivate dumb, disinterested, and often violent and disruptive students.
