FULL TITLE: Defensive handgun sales began booming following Elliot Rodger's Santa Barbara attacks, and the boom continues as far away as Louisiana.////

Gun store owners in Louisiana cite Santa Barbara as the reason for the unprecedented sustained surge in handgun sales they've seen since May 23. And now "sales of compact pistols are growing at double the rate of handguns overall."

According to WWL AM 870, David Newman, Concealed Carry NOLA owner and instructor, explained, "Every time there's a mass shooting, it calls to attention people's need to get some sort of personal protection strategy, and maybe get a firearm."

Newman, who runs the "group of three NRA-certified pistol instructors registered with the Louisiana State Police," said that "people get more concerned about personal safety and the right to bear arms every time there's a major incident."

For women, I’d recommend the Model 60 357 Magnum Lady Smith. 5 rounds of 38 spl, 38 spl +P or 357 Magnum, stainless with 2.25” BBL.

While tragic, is the shooting of three people a “mass shooting?”

After all, three other victims were stabbed to death.

Even here in CA there is a backlog for compact .380s and 9mms. If you want the new Glock 42, get in line. Ditto for the Sig Sauer 238’s and 938’s. .380 ammo is still in short supply.

Or the Ruger LCR which comes with an integral laser.

I would strongly NOT recommend .357 ammo for those with limited wrist strength and high recoil sensitivity. Not to mention severe overpenetration, i.e. shoot-through potential.

Springfield XDs: Anything worth shooting is worth shooting with a .45.
That, my FRiends, is a handheld, pocket rocket launcher! “It’s like ‘high-fiving’ yourself with a 20 oz. framing hammer.”

5+1, so it satisfies Kahleefornia’s limits, but sure there’s something about it arouses Babe Fineswine’s ire.

My wife has a Lady Smith and a Model 10 S&W that shoots 38+P. She doesn’t have a problem with either one. I will admit that I changed out the smooth wood grips on the Lady Smith for a Hogue Monoblock rubber grip for better recoil control, but she shoots that just fine and can control the recoil.

As far as the load, that depends on whether she is just carrying, or she is out hiking in a Georgia State Park....

The key to handling the recoil is to FIRST be instructed in the proper use and to get some extensive classroom education and range time where these problems can be ironed out.

For women, I recommend an LCR/Bodyguard/J-frame in .38 or 9mm Shield/SR9C/XD. Heck, a 9mm sub-compact Sig P290 is what I carry. I would recommend that women carry the P290, except for its “heavyish” double action trigger. I don’t recommend anyone carry .380 or single action pistols. .380 will get the job done, but there many 9mm (a much more effective defensive round) pistols which are almost as small and with similar recoil. Single action pistols should only be carried by people who have experience with them. You could carry them with no round in the chamber, but that could slow you down enough to get dead. IMHO.

“Every time there’s a mass shooting, it calls to attention people’s need to get some sort of personal protection strategy, and maybe get a firearm.”

Exactly the opposite of how the liberal elites want people to act. They want people to be sheeple, to cower in the face of aggression, to be effeminate, to retreat to a corner, cover their eyes, pee their pants, and cry out to their leaders to take care of them, take away the bad guns.

But instead, people refuse to be victimized. They refuse to lock themselves in their home and pee their pants when they see a bad guy. They want to boldly walk downtown, go out to dinner, see movies, and they want to accept the responsibility to protect themselves as necessary.
