Skip to comments.Russia Reignites The Proxy War: Putin Offers "Complete Support" To Iraq PM Scorned By Obama
Posted on 06/21/2014 7:50:30 PM PDT by FR_addict
Two days ago, before it was formalized that the US tacitly, if not explicitly, now supports the removal of the Iraqi Prime Minister whom it itself had helped elect, we summarized the geopolitical tensions and "national interests" in Iraq, which is shaping up to be a proxy war that makes last year's Syrian escapade pale by comparison, as follows: ...

Completely fits with Moscow’s interests in the region, i.e., pro-Tehran, pro-Damascus.
Moscow’s interests are the same everywhere: Pro-Moscow and anti-US
I don’t disagree, but there are places Moscow can jump in and Beijing can’t, and this is one of them. I think Washington and Moscow both are interested in beating Beijing to the punch, and, in that way, sometimes their interests overlap. Just sayin’ .
Totalitarians of a feather, conspire together
I think Obama and Putin both hate this country, so they’re interests sometimes overlap
Good point. Putin hasn’t pushed for all the ‘gender’ stuff, though.
That could be taken in a different way.
Of course, Obama never saw this coming. Southeastern Iraq is already united with Iran in all but name. ISIL will still get what they can and can test Jordan. The worst of all possible worlds for us and Israel though Obama won’t see it either.
Now we support the terrorists while Russia is going to support the good guys...
Good guys? I don’t know about that.
Whereas Barry somehow supports Sunni jihadis in Syria and opposes them in Iraq.
Why no intrepid member of our MSM has inquired about this seeming inconsistency on the part of the most brilliant mind to ever occupy the WH is of course hardly surprising, since they haven't bothered to notice themselves as their lips are too firmly fixed to Barry's shiny dark posterior.
The consequences of having elected Obama get progressively worse with each passing moment.
Of course some one could have impeached him or 25’d him for mental issues a while back....Instead of helping him.
Putin wants that oil, and America out of the Middle East
I’m concerned about the US personnel over there - O will hang them out to dry, Benghazi times a hundred.
Putin to Obama: “My pawn places your King in danger, - - - AGAIN! ROTFLMAO!!”
“Obama never saw this coming”
Did Bush see it coming? Malaki the pro-Iran Shiite became president under Bush, not under Obama.
“Putin to Obama: My pawn places your King in danger, - - - AGAIN! ROTFLMAO!!”
How true is that???
This not only displaces US Interests in the Middle East, but puts Russia against the forces arrayed against the Russian Proxy Syria, as well.
I can only imagine the laughing in the Kremlin when this proposal hit the table.
As I have often said before:
This is Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals” vs. Machiavelli’s “The Prince”.
And nary a Russian Bullet fired.
Well, maybe a few shots in the air over celebratory Vodka “Shots.”
Obama plays checkers. Putin plays chess.
“At least there’s some consistency in Russian foreign policy. Putin opposes Sunni jihadis in Syria, and now in Iraq.”
You are 100% correct, and I’ll tell you why in 3 words. Uzbecks and Khazaks.
Nasty sods, they are. Got bitten by the Jihadi bug hard and Putin does not want them messing around in the re-invigorated USSR. The more that head to Syria or Iraq or Afghanistan and get killed, the happier he is.
As stated, it’s a proxy war, but not particularly aimed at the USA in this case. Why should he bother? It’s not as if the Worm will ever stand up to Putin.
And upon what basis will we then oppose Russia sending troops to aid the Iraqi PM in his fight against Obama supported Sunni jihadi’s in Iraq now that we have painted them as “evil bad guys”.
This is bizzare....
~I think Washington and Moscow both are interested in beating Beijing to the punch, and, in that way, sometimes their interests overlap. Just sayin .~
Not true. US foreign policy was extremely pro-Chinese since about 1970s and also anti-Russian, even after Cold War.
And it is spectacular that US can’t hold any ground it has strugled from the Russians in the last 20 years.
Central Asia is a primary example. US has effectively defeated Russian influence there but hasn’t gained any of it’s own. It is China who filled a gap.
In my opinion there is no American interest in that happened there.
I can’t think of a better ploy than to lure Putin deep into that whole mess
Putin laughs at Obozo’s reset and initiates his own reset of the Soviet Union.
Wow, who saw this coming?
The problem is I don't think Obama is smart enough to play checkers even.
The US could have been energy independent and out of that god-forsaken part of the world years ago if we only had the Will.
Russia was helping Iran with nuclear facilities and other weapons over 10 years ago. Russia armed Israel’s enemies for the Six Day War and instigated the War. A few years ago, Iranian leaders promised nuclear equipment to Syria.
To headlines: Good, but with reservations.
And Persians invented chess
The precursors of chess originated in India during the Gupta Empire, where its early form in the 6th century was known as chaturaṅga, which translates as "four divisions (of the military)": infantry, cavalry, elephantry, and chariotry, represented by the pieces that would evolve into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook, respectively.
Chess was introduced to Persia from India
Hope and change! Ain’t it great?
