Child rapists deserve due process. Conservatives governors, not so much.
Two unfolding stories offer us a revealing glimpse into the extraordinarily malleable morality of the left.
There is the case of Hillary Clintons 1975 defense of a child rapist in Arkansas. As you know, defending your client to the best of your ability is what the law demands. And the law is the law. Then there is the case of governor Wisconsin Scott Walker, someone who, though he has never been close to being found guilty (or even formally charged) of any crime, is guilty of wrongdoing by the mere existence of an accusation. Here, the law is irrelevant.
Clinton. Champion of women, slayer of conspiracies, and a woman who as a lawyer once went hard at a 12-year-old rape victim in Arkansas was simply providing an invaluable constitutional service. It was her job.
In the Daily Beast, the now 52-year-old victim says that Hillary Clinton took me through Hell a line that would surely eradicate the political aspirations of any Republican candidate. Man or woman. Of course, the case against Clinton is not a question of whether the accused deserves a competent defense this, we hope is settled. What it should focus on is whether Clinton deployed some of that unbridled ambition to unethically denigrate and lie about a 12-year-old who was raped.
Here is a snippet from a Glenn Thrush story from 2008 that touches on the matter, gently:
The case offers a glimpse into the way Clinton deals with crisis. Her approach, then and now, was to immerse herself in even unpleasant tasks with a will to win, an attitude captured in one of her favorite aphorisms: Bloom where youre planted.
Ah, bloom where youre planted. According to the Daily Beast, the victim asserts that Hillary smeared her and used dishonest tactics to successfully get her attacker off with a light sentence even though, she claims, Clinton knew he was guilty. According to Hillary, the 12-year-old was emotionally unstable with a tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing. And maybe this was true, maybe not. But its long been procedure in campaigns to rummage through the cases of candidates who are former prosecutors and defense lawyers to dredge up unsavory cases. Democrats often go after former Attorneys General for failing to prosecute rapes cases at a rate to their liking, so this seems fair game. The rape story is not about the law, which can all agree is sacrosanct.
Scott Walker, on the other hand, is culpable even if he functioned within the law. Probably because his views are offensive, because anyone who has an email discussion with Karl Rove or a phone conversation with the Koch Brothers is, by default, guilty of crimes against democracy.
As Gabriel Malor explains in detail, the Walker investigation driven by partisans is basically dead despite a two-year long secret probe that was unable to make a case worthy of prosecution. Some prosecutor said criminal scheme so its over.
If that were the case, the Clintons would never have been able to rent out the White House. The reporting on the matter was entirely predictable. Outlets continue to use the present tense to explain the investigation. For the most egregious examples read the Washington Post, New York Times and Jonathan Chait who mentions the existence of Republican-appointed judges three times in one post, but never the partisan nature of the prosecutors. Of course, all of this is meant to cloud the prospects of perhaps the strongest presidential contender available to Republicans. Job done.
But to recap: Child rapists deserve due process. Conservatives governors, not so much.
Another example of biased coverage.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
The Law is used to advance the left. 15 million criminal aliens; do they get due process?
Even Lo-Fos are getting tired of this sort of contrived nonsense & ceaseless spin.
“.......anyone who has an email discussion with Karl Rove or a phone conversation with the Koch Brothers is, by default, guilty of crimes against democracy.”......
Might I ask, Who’s “democracy”. Doesn’t Gov. Walker have the same rights and the rest of USED TO HAVE?
Hillary Clinton is going nowhere...fast. As of this very moment....the Hillary Clinton book, “Hard Choices” is nose divng on the Amazon.com best seller list. It is currently #14 only after being releaded less then two weeks ago!!! The book is a major failure and flop combined. Nothing more needs to said, other then Hillarry Clinton has zero political traction....and, she has not met Trey Gowdy, Chariman of the “Benghazi Select Committee” yet!!! Ms. Clinton is not only toast...but sheis burnt toast!!! End of story!!!
Bloom where youre planted.
We need to Round-Up her fat arse, LOL!
In-cite-ful, Sister! LOLOLOLOL!
I’m watching Sunday Insight with Charlie Sykes right now and they were just discussing whether this bogus John Doe story would hurt his fund raising. The panel thought it would be the opposite — it would boost his fund raising because the “base” would be so p****d.
I thought, well, it’s getting me out to a fund raiser this coming Wednesday and loosening my purse strings for a donation larger than I ever thought I’d give any politician.. And it’s the SECOND one his year.
*APPLAUSE* I’m trying to keep my intact record of never giving a DIME to ANY politician, but I may have to re-think this one.
I’ll wait ‘til near the end, and if he’s flailing around for money, I’ll write him a check to cover it. ;)
(Don’t quote me on that, LOL!)
I received the following email from Tonette Walker this AM:
Dear Friend and Supporter:
The past few days have been hard. I feel for my husband Scott. I feel for our boys Matt and Alex. And I feel for the people of Wisconsin who recognize the truth and yet are constantly being put in a position to have to defend it.
It’s tiring to wake up every day to false accusations and attacks from partisan politicians and the press. This weekend has been another test of our resolve. Scott and our conservative allies continue to be the target of accusations by the office of a Democrat district attorney. Not one, but two judges, have ruled against the Democrat district attorney’s office and have explicitly ordered an end to its investigation. So even though it appears that the prosecutors have lost in the Court of law, they’ve released old documents to try and create a new firestorm in the Court of Public Opinion. Remember, there have been no charges brought against Scott. There is no case.
So like we’ve all done since the Recall and the John Does, we continue to fight on, with the truth on our side.
Last weekend we celebrated Fathers Day and Scott’s commitment to family. This weekend, Alex and I had the opportunity to travel to several GOP volunteer offices, and celebrate the commitment of so many friends and supporters to Scott’s belief in Wisconsin.
As November nears, it’s clear these baseless attacks won’t stop - and that 2014 will be our toughest battle yet. Yet Scott has vowed to fight on using the truth to keep the hardworking taxpayers in charge of their government.
Scott’s reforms have made a difference in Wisconsin. The 3.6 billion dollar deficit we inherited from the previous administration is gone. Taxes are lower, and more people are going back to work.
With just a few months until Election Day, we are going to need you to have our backs - we will always have yours. Scott and I and the boys can’t thank you enough for all your support and your prayers. They keep our family energized and encouraged to keep going.
Thank you for your belief in what is true.
They are both SO classy! I heard Governor Walker on Hannity the other afternoon. He sticks to the FACTS, never raises his voice, never lets them get his goat, so to speak.
Not sure what it’s like by you, but in Dane County, the Media IGNORES him and pimps Mary Burk at EVERY opportunity. Dane County thinks it has this Governorship all sewn up, LOL!
They are delusional and keep FORGETTING that Dane & Milwaukee Counties are full of it and the WHOLE REST OF THE STATE gets to vote!
