Twice the average (by population) of what Chicago PD kills. One of the questions is whether they are killing too many or if Chicago isn’t killing enough. It might also be nice to know details and demographics around the cases - hard to make statistics meaningful with numbers and no other real data.

There needs to be a lot more of these kinds of civic actions when the PD is identified as a pack of armed killers with badges.

How can you make that determination when there are almost no facts/details in the story?

Correct, but we have no idea which side has the real problem. Are the cops out of control or are the criminals?

"almost no facts/details in the story"

Probably most know some facts from some of the other stories.

If you haven't seen the video of the homeless man getting killed, you should.

... a police agency criticized by the U.S. Justice Department ...

Criticism from the Injustice Department rings hollow.

>>the Police Department has announced a number of new changes to training and has ordered officers to stop shooting at moving vehicles.<<

Good idea!

Unfortunately the police didn’t help themselves as there was an undercover officer embedded with protestors who was filming them. He was recognized and outed further inflaming tensions. Previous to the march, protest organizers had met with police and agreed that uniformed officers would be present to monitor the march and provide traffic control.

And, yes, the video of the police shooting the mentally ill homeless man is from ABQ and has gone viral; it is very disturbing as it appears he was surrendering to police orders when killed. He was armed only with two small knives and not confrontational. They began shouting at him and when he didn’t immediately obey, they shot him and he died from the bullet wounds.

Every day you read similar stories from all over the country, and you end up saying to yourself, WTF is wrong with the LEOs? They are supposedly our neighbors, so why do they want to kill us at what amounts to the slightest provocation. And then last week there was this “incident” where a 35 year cop, slit the throat of someone’s dog who was already constrained on a noose. And his chief is “shocked” at his behavior? How far out of touch do you have to be before you loose your job. Something is really wrong when someone who is allowed to carry a gun, thinks this is acceptable behavior. An “us vs. them” attitude has developed that must be met with some serious disciplinary measures when the line is crossed. Until we no longer let cops get away with murder, they will continue to think that it’s o.k. to behave in this fashion. And it starts with demanding that our county prosecutors apply the same standards to cops as they do to the rest of us. You and I don’t get a pass when we kill someone, but the cops do 99% of the time.

ABQ does have a crime problem and many of the criminals are hopped up on drugs and armed when confronted by police. So in many past cases it was shoot or be shot. Unfortunately, that has led officers to be more likely to shoot first in cases that could be handled with lessor, non-deadly force.
