One-on-one with Rick Perry (part two)
Washington Post ^ | 6-20-14 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 06/22/2014 6:33:27 AM PDT by RKBA Democrat

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is taking seriously his preparation for a possible presidential run, meeting with domestic and foreign policy experts. He is also campaigning for governors. In Iowa, for example, he said, “I’m not worried about [GOP Gov.] Terry Branstad. But we have an important Senate race there.” Branstad, who’s at the top of the ticket, “will raise the tide for everyone.”

Perry is more at ease, less forced in conversation than he was four years ago. He even looks and sounds different. Gone is the Texas swagger (and much of the twang). In his distinctive black eyeglasses, he looks more like a middle-aged businessman than a Texas pol. But that doesn’t mean he is without controversy. He got himself in hot water last week by comparing homosexuality to alcoholism. But unlike in 2012, he quickly corrected course at a GOP gathering in D.C.:

Republicans do not want to take the WH. Why? I have no idea but giving us retreads is not gonna do it.

I have yet to see one Republican that hasn’t been dissed by conservatives/other Repubs, even here on FR.

I don’t think the gop faction of the uniparty much cares. So long as their good friends in the ‘rat faction of the uniparty stay in power, it’s all good from their perspective.

This article looks like a trial balloon to me. I guess uniparty management has decided that Jabba the Christie isn’t going to be the nominee, so back to Willard Romney, Jeb, and Gov. Perry.

“I have yet to see one Republican that hasn’t been dissed by conservatives/other Repubs, even here on FR.”

Given that most candidates representing the gop wing of the uniparty are not significantly different from their good friends in the ‘rat faction of the uniparty, I don’t see a problem with that time honored FR tradition.

Not one word in the puff piece about illegal immigration. Most of the illegals in the recent tide wave of invaders have been pouring in through Texas. What has Perry done? He bragged about a 'surge' (how original) in border enforcement. But when the State of Texas captures the invaders they just hand them over to ICE who transports them further in the country and lets them go free. So, in effect, Perry is assisting the invasion!

Its outrageous and apparently most Texans don't even care.

Perry wants to make the next Presidential election about American jobs and the economy. That sounds like a conversation we ought to be having.

I wouldn’t t say that most Texans don’t care. The media decides what it’s going to report. And an invasion of illegal aliens and ms 13 members isn’t on their list of approved stories.

Texans are nice folks and generally conservative. I don’t think they walk the talk enough, but to say they don’t care I don’t think is a fair characterization.

Agreed.

We need to vet them here on FR because we know for sure the "news" media want to force a weak, easily beatable candidate. And it's a double-shot for them if they can push a candidate true conservatives will stay home rather than vote for.

Still, what I've seen here and other places by too many people is an unwillingness to bend a little; no one is perfect, no one is going to be exactly like me. There is more than one way to skin a cat and politicians have to say some things to get elected that they never mean to carry out (see obammy's campaigns).

Yes, we should talk about American jobs. Especially those folks that are seeing their pay reduced or jobs eliminated as a result of an influx of unskilled labor from other countries.

I welcome that conversation. Unfortunately I don’t think that Gov. Perry wants to have THAT conversation about jobs.

There’s a difference between being flexible and bending over forwards.

I did notice that as soon as he was out of the race, he dropped that twang. What was that about?!

I'm not particularly interested in focusing on unskilled jobs either. We already have a president who's good at that.

No, the conversation Perry wants to have is about creating good paying skilled jobs and having that become the engine for wider economic growth.

“Texas Gov. Rick Perry is taking seriously his preparation for a possible presidential run”...

Sure wish he’d wake up to reality; I hate to see him throw his money away.

We disagree. Lowskilled labor still makes up a part of our population, and other than putting those people on welfare, I see no so called political leader seriously addressing their concerns. Sure. Talk about high skilled jobs. But don’t ignore a growing underclass that would be better put to productive use.

“Sure wish he’d wake up to reality; I hate to see him throw his money away.”

It’s obvious that he views his destiny as not being in Texas, but on the Kobe beef and lobster circuit in DC.
