Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he blames the current crisis in Iraq on those who backed the 2003 U.S. invasion, not President Obama.
Paul was asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether former Vice President Dick Cheney is a “credible critic” after he blasted Obama for his strategy for Iraq in an op-ed last week.
“I think the same questions could be asked of the same people who supported the Iraq war,” Paul said. “What’s going on now..I don’t blame President Obama. I blame the Iraq war and I blame the people who supported the Iraq war for emboldening Iran.”
The Bush administration didn’t understand and foresee that a civil war would break out, Paul said.

The GWB Admin was wrong to invade Iraq which was a natural, effective foe against Iran. With that said to leave the followup in the hands of the tasbard Kenyan along with all his other foreign and domestic policies is a far greater epic disaster. Bammy had his shot to be a better Pres than W but he’s proven unworthy to even lick the Crawford, Tx. mud off the boots of Jr. George.
As for Rand Paul he’s all over the map an totally unreliable as a conservative. Next....

Statement on Signing the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998
October 31, 1998
Today I am signing into law H.R. 4655, the “Iraq Liberation Act of 1998.” This Act makes clear that it is the sense of the Congress that the United States should support those elements of the Iraqi opposition that advocate a very different future for Iraq than the bitter reality of internal repression and external aggression that the current regime in Baghdad now offers.
Let me be clear on what the U.S. objectives are:
The United States wants Iraq to rejoin the family of nations as a freedom-loving and lawabiding member. This is in our interest and that of our allies within the region.
The United States favors an Iraq that offers its people freedom at home. I categorically reject arguments that this is unattainable due to Iraq’s history or its ethnic or sectarian makeup. Iraqis deserve and desire freedom like everyone else.
The United States looks forward to a democratically supported regime that would permit us to enter into a dialogue leading to the reintegration of Iraq into normal international life.
My Administration has pursued, and will continue to pursue, these objectives through active application of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The evidence is overwhelming that such changes will not happen under the current Iraq leadership.
In the meantime, while the United States continues to look to the Security Council’s efforts to keep the current regime’s behavior in check, we look forward to new leadership in Iraq that has the support of the Iraqi people. The United States is providing support to opposition groups from all sectors of the Iraqi community that could lead to a popularly supported government.
How would he have fared against the Arab Spring, even if all had remained locked in place from 10 + years ago? His army, already decrepit from sanctions 10 years ago, would have withstood ISIS or a push from Iran during the past ten years better than the current U.S. reinforced version? It was over and done with by ‘08, all Obama had to do was hold on to the gains.

I agree. The invasion of Iraq was a mistake, I believe. Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Rumsfeld's disbanding of the Iraqi military as part of his 'de-Bathification" program was a further disaster.
I have no problem blaming Obama for his many failures but I can't in good conscience blame him for the mess that became of Iraq. Bush owns this one.
All this being said, Saddam's days were numbered regardless of what we did. When practically every family in Iraq knows someone who "disappeared" under Saddam's regime, change would be coming.
