Paul Blames Iraq Crisis on Bush Administration
The Hill ^ | Sunday, June 22, 2014 | Rebecca Shabad

Posted on 06/22/2014 9:05:48 AM PDT by kristinn

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he blames the current crisis in Iraq on those who backed the 2003 U.S. invasion, not President Obama.

Paul was asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether former Vice President Dick Cheney is a “credible critic” after he blasted Obama for his strategy for Iraq in an op-ed last week.

“I think the same questions could be asked of the same people who supported the Iraq war,” Paul said. “What’s going on now..I don’t blame President Obama. I blame the Iraq war and I blame the people who supported the Iraq war for emboldening Iran.”

The Bush administration didn’t understand and foresee that a civil war would break out, Paul said.

Well, he’s a Liberal Democrat. Of course he’d say that.

Screw him! Bush ABSOLUTELY understood Civil War would break out. That’s why he GAVE NO TIMELINE on withdrawal and had weekly calls with Malaki to help him govern.

Let’s be brutally honest here. The dirty little secret that nobody wants to talk about is that Saddam Hussein was far more effective at dealing with radical Muslims in Iraq than were the @ssholes in the U.S. government who invaded Iraq and toppled his government in 2003.

Of course he does. He wouldn’t want to say anything “rasis” about his little buddy, Barry Soetoro.

The new Godwin’s law is that if you mention George W. Bush, you have lost the argument.

Liberals can’t begin to discuss anything without mentioning George W. Bush.

Rand Paul is officially a liberal.

Baloney. The Bush administration revealed its rank incompetence when it allowed the new Iraqi government to adopt a constitution in 2005 in which Islam was established as the official state religion.

Someone would have to be retarded to expect a country to survive under those governing conditions with all the religious/ethnic divisions among Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish groups.

How can Rand blame Bush and Cheney, et al for what is happening in Iraq and then go on a Sunday show and make this statement.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Sunday that the Sunni militants taking over Iraq have quickly gained power because the United States has armed their group in Syria. “I think we have to understand first how we got here,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Is he saying that Bush and Cheney planned this over six years ago and somehow managed to enact their plan after leaving office? Just how many drugs has Rand been sharing with his old pappy, or is this a clear sign that dementia is a genetic strong suit among the Paul's?

The GWB Admin was wrong to invade Iraq which was a natural, effective foe against Iran. With that said to leave the followup in the hands of the tasbard Kenyan along with all his other foreign and domestic policies is a far greater epic disaster. Bammy had his shot to be a better Pres than W but he’s proven unworthy to even lick the Crawford, Tx. mud off the boots of Jr. George.
As for Rand Paul he’s all over the map an totally unreliable as a conservative. Next....

Rand Paul and his idiot dad have no clue. Both of them should do some reading.

William
William J. Clinton
Statement on Signing the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998
October 31, 1998

Today I am signing into law H.R. 4655, the “Iraq Liberation Act of 1998.” This Act makes clear that it is the sense of the Congress that the United States should support those elements of the Iraqi opposition that advocate a very different future for Iraq than the bitter reality of internal repression and external aggression that the current regime in Baghdad now offers.

Let me be clear on what the U.S. objectives are:

The United States wants Iraq to rejoin the family of nations as a freedom-loving and lawabiding member. This is in our interest and that of our allies within the region.

The United States favors an Iraq that offers its people freedom at home. I categorically reject arguments that this is unattainable due to Iraq’s history or its ethnic or sectarian makeup. Iraqis deserve and desire freedom like everyone else.

The United States looks forward to a democratically supported regime that would permit us to enter into a dialogue leading to the reintegration of Iraq into normal international life.

My Administration has pursued, and will continue to pursue, these objectives through active application of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The evidence is overwhelming that such changes will not happen under the current Iraq leadership.

In the meantime, while the United States continues to look to the Security Council’s efforts to keep the current regime’s behavior in check, we look forward to new leadership in Iraq that has the support of the Iraqi people. The United States is providing support to opposition groups from all sectors of the Iraqi community that could lead to a popularly supported government.

How would he have fared against the Arab Spring, even if all had remained locked in place from 10 + years ago? His army, already decrepit from sanctions 10 years ago, would have withstood ISIS or a push from Iran during the past ten years better than the current U.S. reinforced version? It was over and done with by ‘08, all Obama had to do was hold on to the gains.

Saddam was a radical Muslim himself. He helped far more terrorists than hurt.

Palestinians Get Saddam Charity Checks: CBS News 2003
Saddam Hussein has distributed $260,000 to 26 families of Palestinians killed in 29 months of fighting with Israel, including a $10,000 check to the family of a Hamas suicide bomber. …
The Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan: WSJ 2011
With Islamists thus amply represented in parliament, domestic considerations hampered the king’s (Hussein of Jordan) foreign-policy decision making. During the 1991 Gulf War, the king declared neutrality, while the Brotherhood backed Saddam Hussein.

I agree. The invasion of Iraq was a mistake, I believe. Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Rumsfeld's disbanding of the Iraqi military as part of his 'de-Bathification" program was a further disaster.

I have no problem blaming Obama for his many failures but I can't in good conscience blame him for the mess that became of Iraq. Bush owns this one.

All this being said, Saddam's days were numbered regardless of what we did. When practically every family in Iraq knows someone who "disappeared" under Saddam's regime, change would be coming.
