If anyone doubted that the Republican Party would become more conservative after the ousting of Eric Cantor, his successor put those doubts to rest over the weekend.
In an interview with Fox News, incoming House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) revealed leadership's first significant policy shift: opposition to reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank when its current charter expires on Sept. 30, a move that would shutter the credit agency.
"One of the problems with government is it's going to take hard earned money so others do things that the private sector can do. That's what Ex-Im Bank does," he said. "I think Ex-Im Bank is one that government does not have to be involved in. The private sector can do it."
The Ex-Im Bank, first established in 1934, is tasked with boosting the exports of American goods and services through loans and guarantees. In fiscal year 2013, the Ex-Im bank supported $37.4 billion in U.S. exports and 205,000 export-related American jobs, the agency estimated.
Ex-Im has for years been a target of conservatives in and out of Congress, who view it as a bastion of corporate welfare and cronyism. It has a complicated history that touches internal House Republican fights for leadership which may have affected McCarthy's move.
In 2012, despite right-wing opposition, Cantor helped rescue the bank in a deal with Democrats that a number of House Republicans voted against. McCarthy went along with Cantor's deal at the time. But now things are different.

So of all the things to “do”, what this article is seeming to say is that by eliminating jobs, this was somehow conservative?

People are tending to look at their records more than just listen to their rhetoric. Just because they’re breaking out the turd polish doesn’t mean they’ll govern any differently once they get reelected. King Obama has shown us all what rhetoric is good for...nothing.

The program consists mostly of guarantees. The government removes certain risks from export transactions by guranteeing payment in the event of war or other foreign disruptions. Banks relieved of that risk then make loans used to manufacture and ship product.
The default rate is very low.
There was a big flap here about such loans to Brazil that in effect protected US vendors providing all sorts of goods and services to the offshore efforts.
My take is that the program is an easy target for conservative purists to count coup.
Great, it’s 20 years after the GOP took over Congress, and they are finally getting around to axing the Export-Import Bank. Of course, it’s not going anywhere, so even this tiny gesture is bull crap.
The RHINOs has all the opportunity the needed to “shift to the right” when Cantor was defeated. They dropped the ball when appointing his replacement. I am DONE with the once republican party!

Like saying Reagan couldn’t get nomimated in today’s Republican party while at the same exact time in history it nominates McCain and Romney - two of the most famous RINOs.

Yeah; I’m sitting there listening to McCarthy being interviewed by Chris Wallace, and I’m thinking: This guy is playing up to the Conservatives. Hell, he sounded like Ronald Reagan. Let’s wait and see if he is still this “Conservative” after the first Tuesday of November.
They’re eliminating crony capitalism. If the market needs support for exports, then the market will provide it. There’s no need for government here.
