Mormons oust Ordain Women's Kate Kelly over women priests

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has excommunicated a prominent backer of ordination of women priests, her advocacy group has said.

Kate Kelly, founder of Ordain Women, was notified of the ruling on Monday, a day after a trial by judges in the Mormon Church, Ordain Women said.

The group said the Mormon Church hierarchy deemed her an apostate for her contravention of Church doctrine.

The Utah-based Mormon religion boasts more than 15 million members worldwide.

According to a letter informing her of her excommunication obtained by the Deseret News, a leading Utah newspaper, Ms Kelly will be barred from some acts of church worship for at least a year.

"You are entitled to your views, but you are not entitled to promote them and proselyte others to them while remaining in full fellowship in the Church," wrote Bishop Mark Harrison of Virginia.

She can be readmitted to the fold if she shows "true repentance", including ceasing "teachings and actions that undermine the Church, its leaders, and the doctrine of the priesthood", he wrote. 'Tragic day'

Ms Kelly said the church's decision, taken by an all-male panel of judges, was "exceptionally painful".

For those who would not otherwise know what the phrase "barred from some acts of church worship" means, it means that she would not be allowed to offer the opening or closing prayer at a Church meeting, to teach a class, or to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting. OTOH, the standard language and procedure would be for her to be invited to come to all Church meetings. If, at the end of one year she met with her bishop and stake president and agreed to support all Church teachings, her excommunication could be reversed through re-baptism. That, at least, was the procedure when I was involved in such events.

I notice the careful omission from your post that excommunication includes revoking of Kelly's "temple recommend"...barring her from the arcane rituals that mormonism claims is necessary for salvation.

Her parents, long time faithful members had THEIR "recommends" revoked for the simple act of supporting their daughter.

Note: Article 3 of the mormon creed, "Articles of Faith" states 'We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel." Plainly stating that salvation can ONLY be gained by taking part in arcane temple rituals. The LDS Endowment

Kelly's man-determined punishment according to mormon doctrine, closes the door for her to attain mormon "salvation".

There is NO such thing in mormonism as a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ". The gatekeepers of the sect consider themselves to be in control of eternal salvation. The mislead members blindly allow this intervention by men's rules between Jesus Christ and themselves.

temple recommend was the first thing I thought of..

as its the first consideration and the pass to the Mormon temple rituals it would be the most important item a Mormon would have in their possession..

To be denied a temple recommend means she cannot got o the Mormon temple for the Mormon style Freemasonry rites which Mormons claim are necessary to enter the Mormon afterlife when she dies..

Although these pagan rituals are totally unBibical the Mormonism company CEOs keep their members in fear of the Mormon hell by forcing them to pay club dues of 10% of their income to the Mormon Mafia which only doles out 1% of this protection money to needy Mormons in the form of loans...

1% of the MILLIONS the Mormons coerce and extort form their members every year take in every year is peanuts compared to the amount of charity that Christian churches give freely, but then the Mormon company is not a charity but a business..

A Mormon bishop named Willard Mitt Romney once boasted that he was responsible for the “ceiling” being cracked by women in employment etc.. He claimed he was all for equality of the sexes but that was back in 1992...Since then he has done nothing or little to back up his big words said during a debate for US Senate.. I wonder if Willard will champion his fellow Mormon in her struggle...

However after the fact Willard did claim in 1978 that he had been pulling all along for black men to get the Mormon priesthood and indeed he did say he pulled over to the side of the road and cried buckets when it was announced on the radio that the Mormon gods had changed their confused minds and now black men could be priests..

So who knows what he will do when the Mormons gods change their minds and let women also have the Mormon priesthood..which is coming up sometime in the future...

Right now all males whether straight or homosexual can be a Mormon priesthood holder..so since sinning males can be without being excommunicated why not innocent Mormon women who are living the WOW ???

Don't you mean FULL salvation?

After all; only about 15% or so of all Mormons will have a valid TR at the time of death.

Those OTHER poor souls will be STUCK on Level Two with the REST of us Protestants and Catholics who haven't taken advantage of the Mormon Religious Organization's offer.

• Level Three: Telestial - where unbelievers go
