U.S. Conference of Mayors had a 4-day conference that ended on Monday. More than 200 mayors participated in this gathering that took place in Dallas. The result of this was U.S. Conference of Mayors urging federal courts up to the U.S. Supreme Court to allow same-sex couples nationwide to marry.
The same conference was held back in 2009, that time too it endorsed the freedom of same-sex couples to marry. The same thing it reaffirmed in this current resolution.
The major noting of the group was that that 19 states and the District of Columbia allow same-sex couples to marry. Also, they condemned any legislation that gave the authorization to discrimination in employment or refusal of service or facilities to gays and lesbians.
Leaders from several states where ban on same-sex marriage prevails were a part of it including mayors from Arizona, Texas, Ohio, Colorado, Missouri and Georgia. They were involved in the resolution's passage. Further, in this list were Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed who too signed this petition.
"The United States Conference of Mayors reaffirms its support of the freedom to marry for same-sex couples and urges the federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, to speedily bring national resolution", their statement reads.
It was largely supported by formation of Mayors for the Freedom to Marry, a same-sex marriage advocacy group of which Kevin Faulconer, the Republican mayor of San Diego was the chairman.
The whole purpose behind the U.S. Conference of Mayors was to make the U.S. Supreme Court to follow the lead of numerous states with a wave of over 20 federal and state courts to bring an end to marriage discrimination nationwide. Further, they believe that gay couples with the freedom to marry will strengthen families and communities.
Time to fire some mayors, America.

Houston’s Democrat gay mayor who is serving her last allowable term is pushing policies that will lead to the total destruction of any sense of morality in Houston, much the same as Obama is doing to the United States.

I moved out to the suburbs six years ago but as best I can recall it goes something like this. Houston has always had a Democrat mayor (remember they keep electing Sheila Jackson Lee and Gene Green as two of their reps) with close ties to Democrat leadership in Washington. Over the years it has become one of the most corrupt city governments anywhere, particularly in Texas.
During one of the past elections someone convinced the majority of the City employers that they might lose their jobs if the opposition was elected because he was going to cut waste, fraud and spending.
Denise Porker pretty much stayed away from gay/lesbian issues during her first term. Since she did nothing really bad, she was re-elected, particularly with strong support from those who went around saying, “See, she didn’t push the gay agenda.”
But then the minute she was re-elected all hell broke loose. The gays, lesbians and transexuals are delighted because they knew they only had to be patient for a bit longer and make sure she was re-elected.
The Black ministers are up in arms and it’s I told you so time.
The infrastructure is in shambles, property taxes are unacceptably high, the City Council just passed a huge budget and the public schools are a very expensive disaster. I would hate to estimate what the entire debt load for the City is, much of it unfunded liabilities. The Chief of Police is another disaster. The Police Department is undermanned, crime rates are rising and the Fire Department is going through brown outs because the Mayor and the union cannot agree on a contract.
Just normal everyday life for a major city run into the ground by Democrats.

As a lifelong resident of the city (minus a little time in League City), I am dismayed at what has become of the local government. Still, I can tell you I feel much safer living here than I would in Detroit. I have no problems going out in many parts of Houston by myself, at least in the daytime anyway. I’m pretty sure I would not feel comfortable doing the same thing in Detroit.

Not even close and I would like to hope that it won’t ever be that bad. It is the fourth largest city in the U.S., is a sanctuary city, employment is strong, lots of multiple family construction, lots and lots of money, lot more gays, lesbians and illegals than Detroit ever will have.
It certainly is a whole lot better than many other cities in the U.S. For those of us who have been in Texas for a good long while though, it isn’t what it was several years ago.

Everything I said was true. But I suppose it is all relative. I was in Detroit last year and let me assure you Houston is no Detroit.
At least 250,000 new people have moved to Houston in the last two years. Some of the problems are certainly due to growing pains but most of them are, IMO, because it has been mismanaged by Democrats for many years.
Sounds like Detroit? Not hardly - it is Texas after all. It is just not like it was when I moved down here in 1985. Reason I moved to the suburbs. But then again, nothing is like it was in 1985.
