Yes, the Iraq War was a disaster of historic proportions. Yes, seeing its architects return to prime time to smugly slam President Obama while taking no responsibility for their own, far greater, failures is infuriating.
But sooner or later, honest liberals will have to admit that Obamas Iraq policy has been a disaster. Since Obama took office, Iraq watchers - including those within his own administration - have warned that unless the United States pushed hard for inclusive government, the country would slide back into civil war. Yet the White House has been so eager to put Iraq in Americas rearview mirror that, publicly at least, it has given Maliki an almost-free pass. Until now, when it may be too late.
By ignoring Iraq, and refusing to defend democratic principles there, he has helped spawn the disaster we see today.
Its time people who arent Republican operatives began saying so.

I wonder if any of his supporters had even an inkling of a thought about what he meant by “transforming America.”
Sounds like they’re demanding that Iraq form a new government immediately and wishing upon a star.
I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the
term “honest Liberal”, isn’t that some sort
Jon Kery B stuk in Irak.
that dainty golf swing is really something !
I won’t pretend to have any answers to how to fix the Iraq mess but I wouldn’t be so stupid as to foolishly demand the formation of a new government while the country is in a state of complete collapse.
My first reflex thought is to get the Shiites and Kurds to form a government and stomp the sunnis into submission.
There's a howler.
“Yes, the Iraq War was a disaster of historic proportions.”
Only after 1/20/09.
Kicking Islamic Jihadi butt is always a good idea though.
If I knew then what I know now I probably would have opposed getting involved in Iraq the way it was done.
Might be a good article but starts out with two whoppers:
(a) Maliki is a tyrant.
I can hardly wait for the CNN tour of his opulent palace. Obama has played the tyrant card in each Arab spring country so far to help put radical Muslims in power.
(b) Iraq is experiencing a civil war.
In what way is an invasion of militant Muslims from Iran a Syria a civil war? That line is straight from the White House, right next to “Sectarian Strife”.
Jimmy Carter created the crisis in Iran.
Barrack Hussein Al-Obama has given us crisis in Egypt, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, Iraq and Afghanistan soon. And, he’s working hard in Africa to jinn up more crisis.
Clearly, giving a narcissist a Nobel Peace Prize as a door prize is problematic, where Carter got his after he was a failure as a consolation.
I was in Iraq in 2010. I left in the beginning of June. We knew that the Iraqis were going to have it rough after we left because they were getting far too much intell from us that they had no way of collecting after our departure. For thus who were there, the mess there now is no surprise.
