Safety inspections are stupid. Emission tests more so.

So glad Florida doesn’t require yearly inspections. Maybe I should have kept quiet and not jinxed myself. I hated having to get it inspected in NJ where they would always fail you for exhaust emissions which seemed like a racket just for the state to make extra $$$$$. Plus waiting at the DMV was insane!

When I lived in TX, that inspection sticker was the biggest rip off. The inspectors were independent operators and the fee was set by the state. Since the fee didn’t cover the trouple the inspector took to perform the inspection, there were always add ons that easily raised the price to more than $100 in 1970s dollars.
The other catch was that the inspection had to be performed before the end of the month that it was due. You could never get an appointment after the 20th.

Pretty much. I forgot I have a parking pass for my office parking lot.
Many counties in Texas require an emmissions test. Cities like Houston, Dallas, even Austin.
So far San Antonio (me lives here) does not require emmissions.
My goal is to never live in a place that requires inspections.

Jeeze! That hasn’t been true for decades. Back in the 1980’s the DPS started fining the living crap out of shops that were adding on unnecessary repairs (twenty dollars for adjusting headlights, etc). And since the advent of little quick oil change shops there is never much of a wait to get an inspection done. There is however a tailpipe emissions test if you live in certain counties, so if you have an old car you may be in for a bad day on that account.
Based on the article, I think your current one is good for 19 months (12+7). I think the days of getting inspected in the grace period in the next month after the expiry date are over, though.
Guess you could just buy a new car and then you would have one that was good for two years. /s/
Texas is reportedly going to save several million dollars in printing costs alone. I’m sure they’re going to allocate this money to resources necessary to close the border since the cost for the inspection and license renewal will remain unchanged. /s/
What is really aggravating is to see a car which has a current inspection sticker but a severely cracked windshield, broken taillights and expired license renewal sticker.
