GOP Senator Susan Collins expresses support for same-sex marriage
CNN ^ | June 25, 2014 | CNN Political Unit

(CNN) – Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, indicated her support Wednesday for same-sex-marriage, becoming the fourth sitting Republican senator to do so.

“A number of states, including my home state of Maine, have now legalized same-sex marriage, and I agree with that decision,” Collins said according to the Bangor Daily News in response to one of its reporter's questions.

She joins Republican Sens. Mark Kirk of Illinois, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rob Portman of Ohio in expressing support for the marriage equality movement.

I don’t have a problem with gay couples having certain legal rights. But when they demand their relationship be defined as “marriage” it defiles humanity, biology, and what used to be considered common sense.

Gay freakin’ marriage-— they sell their souls over this perversion? One more corrupt Unipartyian. I guess the RINO term has become a perversion too—think about that.

I’m actually surprised she’s just now doing this. Collins (and the retired Snowe) were always lefties on most of the social issues.

As for the others...Murky will endorse anyone and anything, so long as she gets campaign cash out of it. Dunno much about Kirk or Portman.

RINO as obsolete. Now its RIDO= Republican in Democrat Operation. or perhaps RIDM Republican in Democrat Mission. because the 'Republican name' has now devolved into a lower slime formation.

This should raise the hackles of all genuine small-l libertarians. It is the imposition of nonsense upon the citizenry... thou shalt call these buggery affairs marriages... NYET. It goes WAAAAY beyond social permissiveness.

It may be time to completely divorce state sanctioned civil contract unions from the act of a holy joining of a man and woman in a contract between themselves and sworn before God.

Call the civil union “marriage” and let the government define it and perform it. Call the religious union “holy matrimony” and let it be performed before God in the church according to God’s laws.

>> Dunno much about Kirk or Portman. <<

Kirk claims to be "moderate" but votes to the LEFT of many card-carrying Chicago Democrats and even gloated how he got a more liberal rating than Obama from the Sierra Club. Sadly some freepers actually defend this marxist puke and claim he's the "best we can get" in a so-called "blue" state.

Portman is a useless squish who "evolved" on homosexual marriage when his son came out as homosexual.

Collins CLAIMS to be Catholic and is actually married to a man according to Wikipedia but she is about as Catholic as Margaret Sanger was and just as enthusiastic for baby-killing. As a Catholic, I wonder how this creature avoids public excommunication. What is her bishop thinking?

That would simplify things. Even easier, tie the federal benefits that are the real focus of all of it to ‘civil unions’, and let the churches handle ‘marriage’. It’s not the word that’s the issue, it’s all the federal benefits tied to it. Untie the benefits from that word, and the churches can have it back.

This support of same sex marriage is like Don Quixote of La Mancha chasing windmills. First of all, same sex marriage is an illusion. It is not a marriage but like dressing up a dummy and saying it is a person. It is like chasing windmills and calling them a dangerous giants. As in Don Quixote of La Mancha, same sex marriage is an effort to gain equality by fighting an imaginary enemy—tilting at windmills that will spin people around and land them on their keister. Those who engage in this enterprise are fools for those who know it is all a fraud to bilk dupes of their money.

Call the civil union “marriage” and let the government define it and perform it. Call the religious union “holy matrimony” and let it be performed before God in the church according to God’s laws.

That's the only way to repair the mess that has resulted from intertwining the two realms.

That's exactly the situation we have now.

All marriages have to be sanctioned by the state and presided over by a government representative. Churches are free to join couples outside that arrangement; such unions would be sanctioned and recognized by the church but won't have any of the bennies of state marriage.
