Two Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships arrived at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Tuesday, according to Chinese press reports.

Guided missile destroyer Haikou (171) and hospital ship Peace Ark arrived at Pearl Harbor ahead of the Thursday kickoff of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014 multi-nation exercise.

The Chinese in total will send four ships for the world’s largest exercise — a first for the nation with an emerging blue water capability.

The other two ships — frigate Yueyang (575) and oiler Qiandaohu (886) — are expected to arrive shortly.

China will have a total of 1,100 personnel involved in RIMPAC 2014.

Chinese will participate in range of training to include humanitarian and disaster relief (HADR) and gunnery exercises.

It will be the first time the PLAN will participate in the exercise after the U.S. lifted a ban on Chinese participation in 2012.

As part of the Obama administration’s so-called pivot or rebalance to the Pacific, the U.S. has softened stances on working with nations that have national stances that have prevented policy hurdles in the past.

The U.S. has tried to establish closer military-to-military ties with the PLA with the U.S. Navy taking the lead. Naval leaders from both countries have visited each other. In July Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert and his wife will visit his Chinese counterpart, Adm. Wu Shengli.

In addition to China, New Zealand is a full participant in the exercise for the first time since then Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta lifted a 1985 ban on New Zealand ships visiting U.S. naval installations.

A Kiwi ban on visits from nuclear powered or nuclear-armed ships prompted the U.S. policy, which has improved since 2010.

New Zealand participated in the 2012 exercise but their ships were denied access to Pearl Harbor and were moored at a civilian port.

RIMPAC will include 50 ships, 200 aircraft and more than 25,000 military personnel from 23 nations. The exercises will run until August.

Can someone confirm if Obama is aware of this, or is he waiting to read it in the paper tomorrow?

“Can someone confirm if Obama is aware of this, or is he waiting to read it in the paper tomorrow?”

He probably wrote an executive order granting the Chinese harbor rights.

Several of their ships visited the Everett, WA naval base about 10 years ago.

“US policy has improved” with regard to New Zealand.... BUT New Zealand will not let our nuke ships make port call.. STILL. So how is this an “improvement” and what did NZ do to rate this.

China— goes without saying anything but WTF? There is NOTHING we need to know about the Chinese PLAN... but there is a great deal for them to steal from US!!!

What sheer idiocy. Unless we are bombarding them with elint, and humint assets, which under obamaumao isn’t happening.

Silly question, but I’m not up on things.
Do the Chinese ever allow our ships to ‘show the flag’ in their ports?

Why would you ever allow an elint platform and potential/probably trojan horse into Pearl Harbor?
Especially given their track record and the current state of the region?
I suppose all of those libtards that make decisions were too stoned during their Liberal Arts education to actually read any history or literature.
Do we even have anybody in the Pentagon, the Intel ‘community’ (isn’t that sweet, does the ‘community’ bake cookies?), or at Foggy bottom that can speak Chinese that aren’t fellow travelers?
Between incompetence and treason, and yes I believe there is a vast amount of it, I think we are in the end game.
The good news is, you probably don’t have to worry about retirement….

US warships have visited Shanghai within the last ten years.

What are they practicing for, an anticipated intergalactic invasion?

Pearl Harbor is a shared portion of WWII. China suffered greatly under Japanese occupation. My DIL often wonders why so much emphasis is placed on Germany’s continuing culpability over the Jewish people but the world forgets the horror the Chinese suffered. She thinks Japan is allowed to forget.

Yup. She’s Chinese.

Exercise scenario was suggested by the recent film ‘Pacific Rim’ (sarc off).

When I was in the US Navy (1988-1992), we had a few Russian ships stop off at 32nd Street (San Diego, 1990). I was living at NAB Coronado, and had seen MANY of them on base. They had a picnic/BBQ across Silver Strand (by SEAL training). I met a few of them in passing (McDonald’s, Burger King, etc.) and managed to trade a base ballcap for a pair of LCDR equivalent shoulder-boards. Still have them.

Wanted to go on a tour while they were in port at 32nd Street, but my OIC “suggested” us not to go (I was a CTT3 working at NSGD/NCTS/NRRF Imperial Beach). Always regret not going. Would have been cool to see what I could scope out.

So, when will the alien invasion start?

Better light off the boilers on the Missouri. Finding a few projectiles would not hurt either. I know it was a bad movie, but it is amazing what you will watch when on the road.

..... Kinda reminds me of the first tense face to face encounter between the Alien and Ripley in the first “Alien” movie.

Horror was not visited upon just China but everywhere the “Little People” were an occupying or colonial force. One of my earliest recollections of war is a 1937 photo of a Chinese baby crying in the streets of Shanghai after a Japanese air raid. Anecdotally, an Australian friend once told me of their childhood prayers including special intentions to prevent a Japanese invasion. In years long past, German friends that were children or adolescents at war’s end expressed great frustration at the real or self-imposed guilt heaped upon them.
On the other side of the coin, the World has an unconscionable lapse of memory regarding the gross inhumanity of the Chinese government toward their own citizens since 1949.
What’s a mother to do…

They’ll be arriving in NY harbor a day or so after the Fed devalues the US FRAUDS (Federal Reserve Accounting Unit Denominators), erroneously called “dollars”.

A real dollar was — and STILL IS — a coin consisting of 371.25 grains of fine silver or a certificate backed by and redeemable in same.

Bet ya’ didn’t know that.

Or care! But you will when the monetary chit hits the fan.
