There is a difference between supporting something and having them use your tax dollars in a manner you do not approve of.

I d not approve of tax dollars for NASA due to the fact so they cannot say they should get to give money to some other group because I’m okay with the NASA funding. Sorry that you miss the point so completely.

Personally I have no problem with gov supporting basic research. There no/little profit in basic research so investors will not do it. That only leaves a handful of super rich to fund this kind of research. Funding by only the super rich would be inadequate to maintain US leadership in my opinion.
