NEW YORK (MainStreet) — In another sign that the 2014 is turning out to be a watershed year for marijuana drug reform, the federal Department of Drug Enforcement (DEA) has sent up the first of what undoubtedly will be the first of many white flags.

After a historic House vote to defund the DEA's operating budget for marijuana enforcement in the states earlier in the month passed (with a similar one now in the Senate), the government agency has now asked the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consider removing marijuana from the list of Schedule I drugs as defined by the Controlled Substances Act.

Not a fan of marijuana legalization, but perhaps the money used to fight it can be directed to more important matters.

Pro genuine medical marijuana - against legalization for recreational use. Had a sister with cancer who was helped during chemo.

I’m for personal responsibility. Do something dumb while you’re stoned... same as doing something dumb while drunk. Do whatever you like, on your own time, in your own space... be responsible and all is well.

I have never had a problem with the legitimate medical use of marijuana. One must pray for those who are so terribly ill that this is a source of relief for them.

Such a simple, obvious and American way of dealing with so many things.

Kinda reminds me of that thing... you know, the watchamacallit... uh...

...oh yeah - the Constitution.

I don’t have a problem with that, though they need to make first DUI with either alcohol or marijuana (or anything else non-prescription) a mandatory 1 year jail felony, no probation, nothing. Drink/Dope, Drive, Go Directly To Jail.

When/if I EVER see something like that enforced on the Hollyweird crowd or our ‘betters’ FIRST; then I might start thinking about it...

Though, the DUI/etc. track these days are just a $$$ wringer from the pockets of XYZ when the State/cops/etc. keep moving the goal-posts of DUI/etc.

Don’t go bringing up the Constitution and logic now. Don’t you know this is a ‘CONSERVATIVE’ think-tank/website /s

Still amazes me, even here, the knee-jerk reaction of some/most where their own nanny-state vs. Const. comes in. Don’t degegulate/reschedule....as if the Fed has he authority from the get go.

Whatever ones views on MJ, how could one argue for keeping it labeled as dangerous as heroin and other narcotics?

I think it’s preposterous to put it in the same class as heroin, meth, cocaine, pcp, and lsd.

My wife tried it, and it didn't particularly help her. From what I've heard though, for those it does help, it's an absolute Godsend.

Well, it should be no exceptions, so those groups should be subject to it too. In reality? Well....

Israel has led the world in cannabinoid research for close to the last decade. Such research is not possible in the U.S. now because of marijuana's Schedule I classification.

Israel is obviously a pothead hippie loser nation. </s>
