In America today, there are three myths, three fundamentally misguided beliefs that are hurting our young black men and boys -- bright young people that I have been fortunate to meet in my time as Mayor of Philadelphia. These myths chip away at the opportunities of these young men of color. As a result, we're putting an entire generation at a severe disadvantage and wasting the lives of millions of people who, with reasonable investment, could become vital contributors to our economy and society.
Myth: America has progressed enough as a nation that black men and boys have an equal opportunity to be successful.
We have a black President and many other elected officials, doctors, lawyers and industry leaders. Success is a possibility for any person willing to work hard to achieve it. That's the underlying belief that fuels this myth. But, it neglects the realities young black men and boys face every day in America: higher rates of poverty, arrests and incarceration, large health disparities and lower educational attainment rates.
Nationally, the four-year, on-time graduation rate is 78 percent. The national graduation rate for African American boys is just 52 percent. In my city, the on-time graduation rate for 2013 is 64 percent, with the graduation rate for African American boys at a mere 57 percent.
Why the gap? A young man of color is more likely to live in poverty. Children who live in poverty are more likely to miss school and less likely to graduate. Too often, they grow up to work a low-wage, low-skill job -- it's a cycle of poverty that usually remains unbroken. Addressing low-educational attainment for African American men and boys is not simple fix. We need more education funding, targeted resources and development programs.

Not much.
All problems of the Government's making, with 'entitlement' programs that have eliminated the need for fathers to remain with the families they create. We are now going on two generations of young black men who were sired by men who never lived with their mothers. Their mothers never had any need of a man to help support her children, because she could get a welfare check.
How would these young men have ever learned to control themselves, or bother to stay in school, or to be the kind of man who WOULD support a family?

Forgive me but isent this looking at the effect of this sentment, rather than as the cause?
57% of Black boys do in fact graduate, and poor black boys do in fact grow up to become wealthy and successful. Clearly it is possible if you work hard, but you have to be inclined to do so. Something a sad few number of black boys are not inclined to do.
2: This is at least agreeable, Black males commit most of the crimes murdering and getting murdered at a rate that far exceeds their numbers indicating a massive cultural problem among that population and serous threat to the rest of us who lives near them.
2: Defiantly don’t agree, thousands of years of “disinvestment” in Europe and every other place of the world did not create this sort of homicidal self-destructive and depressing madness that we now see in the black community in America.
Only the last 50 years sense welfare and the soo called “civil rights” movement have we seen this sort of mass self-destruction in the black world. All of which seem indicative of a population that both collectively and individually feel hopelessly wronged, and thus unwilling by majority to try pull themselves up by the boot straps instead of waiting for someone else to do it for them.
A poor man does not become wealthy simply because a rich man feeds and educates him. A poor man must be motivated to earn his own food, learn his own lesions and make uses of those skills. This is the sort of self-drive that is at the heart of anyone who is truly successful. Anyone who believes this is fundamentally not possible or too difficult will never commit all the enormous amounts of time, dedication, and effort towards making it happen. Thus they will never be successful if they do not try.
If blacks as a group feel entitled and so wrong personally that they are unwilling to pull themselves up by their own boot straps then they will not do so as individuals or a group.
No amount of external or community effort will ever change that except thou changing how they see and act themselves. After all nobody can ever change the world except by changing themselves.

The meaning of the words can describe someone who is: white, asian, Pakistani, tribal, etc etc etc..

now in 2014 the reality is there is no such a thing as a race. there are just so many subtle differences that you really can’t reasonably classify.
