Remember the Alamo? Phil Collins sure does.
The British 1980s music icon was at the 1836 Battle of the Alamo and Texas Revolutionary shrine in downtown San Antonio on Thursday, announcing the donation of his collection of related artifacts — one so vast it's considered the world's largest such private collection.
Collins, the 63-year-old Genesis singer-drummer, joked he'd spent "all the money that I made from music" on 200-plus pieces related to the battle where 1,500 Mexican troops laid siege to 200 Texans. He said he wanted to ensure the collection was better cared-for in the future.
"Some people would buy Ferraris, some people would buy houses, I bought old bits of metal and old bits of paper," Collins said. "It's at my home, in my basement in Switzerland. I look at it every day, but no one else was enjoying it."
Collins has been an Alamo aficionado since growing up in London and watching actor Fess Parker portray Davy Crockett in a 1950s Disney miniseries.

Saw him years some years ago in concert. One of the best shows I have ever been to. He is a true performer.

Not a big fan of Phil Collins (with the exception of his musical contributions to Miami Vice). However, I thank him for his generous gift to the American people.
Patrick Bateman was a big Genesis fan.
That’s actually very cool. I’m not a huge fan of Phil Collins musically, but he’s a good egg in my book for what he’s doing here.
I never liked Phil Collins much. But I like him a lot more now.
We took the Flash Jrs. to the Alamo on a drizzly day last December, and Little Flash A got a coonskin cap. And yes, I got the kids the Fess Parker Davey Crockett DVD before we went.
Oh goodness, hubby hates Phil Collins so much! But hubby’s a yankee, so who cares?

At one time, the walking tour by listening device featured Mr. Collins as the narrator. It may still.
For putting up with a Yankee you’ll get your reward in heaven. My old dad used to tell me that whenever I would ask him for a raise.
I like some of Collins music and some of his videos showed a good sense of humor and he wasn’t above poking fun at himself. Good to hear a Brit admires our history.

A lot of the English became experts on the American Indians and the lore of the old west....I think it was so foreign to them that they were fascinated by it
I think I saw Genesis every time they came in concert from their “And Then There Were Three” album. Sad thing is, their studio albums can never touch the dynamics of that band live. I’d give anything to see a reunion with Peter Gabriel If they performed the entire “Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” album.

Another rifle of Davy’s is in the museum at the Little Rock, AR Capitol. I’ve seen it, unless the Clintons kipped it when they left office. You know how poor they are. A Percussion cap.
