Basically this is a mixed success test since they can now look at what happened with the chute. Sounds like the early braking worked fine.

Even the fails are successes in that they can learn from their mistakes and improve it.

Not sure why the parachute failed to deploy completely. Might be a tangled shroud line possibly due to some mistake in packing it. I’ve flown enough rockets to know this.

You have to pack that ‘chute properly!

Do you think the spinning would cause any complications in deploying the chute?

Are they co-ordinating with vessels below so that the ships can be close enough to provide visual of splashdown?

I heard someone say at mission control that the recovery team in the boat(s) has a visual on it.

I don’t think the spinning would have caused it to deploy incompletely.

Next Falcon 9 launch attempt set for July 14
Officials are targeting July 14 for the next launch attempt for SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket with six Orbcomm machine-to-machine communications satellites after the booster missed launch opportunities in June.

All in all, looks like a great mission. Now they will have lots and lots of data to study, make changes and improvements, and get ready for the next effort next summer.

Good job!
