At any rate, ever since our suggestion that you might like to help out in this manner, we've had a steady stream of emails from readers explaining that this is all well and good but it's taxable income and what I really need to do is set up a 501(c)3 or 501(c)4 or 501(c)87 or some such as a vehicle for this campaign.
To which the answer is: well, we certainly considered the possibility, and a few years ago I might have entertained the notion. But not anymore. The National Organization for Marriage, which was founded to protect the pre-revisionist definition of marriage, is, in its various arms, both a 501(c)3 and a 501(c)4. As such, its tax returns are publicly available, but not its donor lists. Nevertheless, it is obliged to report its donors on Schedule B to the Internal Revenue Service. Someone at the IRS leaked the donor lists to a man called Matthew Meisel, a gay activist in Boston. Meisel in turn passed it on to the gay group Human Rights Campaign (whose president was a national co-chair of the Obama re-election campaign), and HRC in turn published the list of donors, which was subsequently re-published by The Huffington Post.
There's no secret about why they'd do such a thing. As we know, if you disagree with progressive orthodoxy, you have no right to host a cable-TV home-decor show or give a commencement address at an American university or be a beauty-queen contestant. But that's not enough for these groups.

And she said: "Well, I wouldn't know anything about that."
Steyn’s right, as usual.
Abolish the IRS and replace it with a more constrained agency and simplified tax code more conducive to a civilized society.
These people are out of control.
While we’re at it, about half of government could be trimmed.
That would be a good start.
Steyn ping #2.
Lets just throw in the towel and go for a one party system of “democratic republicanism” , after all we have the liberal fascists and Obama all keyed up and ready to go! /S
The IRS is NOW nothing more than part of a federally funded extortion ring. Learner, Meisel and all the rest are no better than mafiosa shakedown thugs. Issa needs a special prosecutor, and the RICO ( racketeering and influence peddling)statute needs to be invoked.
Bull Crap! I want people to go to jail.
For example, they claimed that the leak was an inadvertent error by a low-level clerk called Wendy Peters in March 2011. But in February 2011 Mr Meisel, the gay activist, was already letting it be known that he had a source who could get him the info.
Someone needs to go to jail for perjury for this! I am tired of these Leftist Government flunkies getting away with their trampling on peoples freedom to exercise their right to be active in political speech.
These Leftist are ready to scream and yell that you are censoring free speech if you try to curb the flow of profanity in music or film but try to be Pro Conservative views in public they are ready to censor your views from the public discourse.
Nonsense. Just do as you are told and keep voting. /s
For a while now I’ve thought Steyn will leave the USA. I’m sure he has the means to do so.
I cannot fathom how this was not a crimninal disclosure. Someone knowingly furnished a confidential list. It did not just happen to go out the door, it went out with the full knowledge it should not have.
A note of caution for these lefties and other such scum who would use my lawful rights to discredit or financially harm me, I guarantee you will not see the fruits of your labor to do so on this planet.
Brian Brown - Defense of Marriage - is a guest on Fox and Friends - Critical point at 3:06 min mark.
He explains that the cutting room - the IRS cant verify who has looked at confidential records.
Think about this in conjunction with Obamacare/ health records.
IRS Scandal - IRS Cutting Room - Agency Reportedly Edits Tax Documents - Fox & Friends
How can the DOJ conduct an investigation into unlawful aspects of the IRS targeting of specific 501(c)(4) groups, when the DOJ is the initiating body for the illegality they are seeking to investigate ?
It’s no big deal to the lefties. They’re so used to doing this and getting away with it...they’re so steeped in criminality, that they don’t see what’s wrong with it anymore. It’s not a big deal...it’s a phony scandal to them. You and me, Joe Schmoe, otoh, thinks it’s rotten to core because if we broke the law, we would go to jail before proven guilty unless you have lots of bond money.
In response they: deny, obfuscate, generalize, and delay. Admit nothing. They realize they have the media on their side and the public has a 1 second ability to recall and no ability to associate. Hard to overcome, in fact, I believe it has reached the point there is no coming back.
Mark Steyn ping.
Freepmail me, if you want on or off the Mark Steyn ping list.
Thanks for the ping Slings and Arrows.
And, Ladies and Gentlemen, this gang of glorious enforcers are in the health care business. Income and insurance card, please....
(Can’t wait for IRS employees to start leaking medical records.)
