What’s in a (Amerindian) name? Let’s ask the Army. (names of helicopters are raaacist)

I know what you’re thinking. Good Lord, not another Washington Redskins racism story. I can relate to that feeling, since I’ve been sick of the subject since I first heard of it as a young man. Well, fear not… it may have started there, but today we’ll jog off on an interesting side path which has cropped up. It isn’t just sports teams which use names associated with indigenous Americans – far from it – and Dr. James Joyner highlights one example which is right in front of our faces… at least if you’re anywhere near an Army base. He references a piece by Simon Waxman, who argues that the US Army is slurring Native Americans with the names of our helicopters.

Well if those Indians don't like it, how about other Indians.

How does the AH-64 Ghandi sound? There has never been an aerial killing machine like the Ghandi.

“Lakota ‘chopper’ lands”

CRAZY HORSE, S.D. — “Wafts of the earthy aroma of wild sage filled the air as Oglala Medicine Man Roy Stone offered a prayer, blessed the South Dakota National Guards newest aircraft, the UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter, then tied an eagle feather onto it.”

But what do they know. They have paternalistic, white liberals being offended for them.

Most states will probably have to be renamed too... Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Minnesota, the Dakotas etc, are all Indian names.

Cities too, where does it end

Entirely possible. Some libs want the names of some cities in the southwest changed because they say their current names violate separation of church and state.

Don't know what we do in a situation like this.

Maynard Kinel Whiteman, accused of using a padlock in a downtown Billings assault

That would screw up more than the southwest.

Even in liberal Boston about 40 streets are named after saints.

There won’t be any language left when the liberals get through with it.
I think that is the general idea. How can your opponents think if they don't have the language to do it in? That was the entire idea behind George Orwell's contracting Newspeak vocabulary..

What is wrong with the Army naming some of it’s best equipment after some of their best and worthiest adversaries who have now become part of the Nation?

It’s an honor and recognition of the Indian’s ancestors who fought against being brought out of the stone-age to the point of being recognized as separate nations by the Constitution.

Not to mention all of the tactics and field-craft they taught the Army.

Fake helicopter that supports stealing from all the other aircraft and giving to those who didn’t earn it?

Does anyone remember an obscure movie called “The Spirit of 76?”

The year is 2176 and everything has been rendered bland and equal. The funniest thing that had me rolling was when everyone paused to listen to the national anthem. A single tone played for a few seconds and then everyone went about their business.

Liberals would love it.

Pretty much. About like Orwell. Double-plus-ungood.

The name Massachusetts might be racist, except we exterminated the Massachusetts tribe before 1750, fortunately, so all that remains is the name.

Boston is a contraction of St. Bartholomew’s Town. And yes, there is a St. Bartholomew street in Boston.

All that and it’s only 1/32nd of a helicopter.
