The first delivery of Russian Sukhoi fighter jets arrived in Iraq on Saturday, the countrys Defense Ministry said. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is hoping the jets will make a key difference in the fight against ISIS.
The Iraqi Ministry of Defense on Sunday confirmed receiving five Su-25 fighter jets in accordance with the deal with Moscow. The jets were delivered by a Russian An-124 transport plane in a dismantled state, and are expected to be set up and become operational within 3-4 days.
The Sukhoi Su-25 is an air-ground support and anti-terrorism mission aircraft. In these difficult times, we are in great need of such aircraft. With Gods help, we will be able to deploy them to support our ground forces on a mission against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant militants within the next 3-4 days, Iraqi Army Lieutenant General Anwar Hamad Amen Ahmed told RTs Ruptly news agency at an airport receiving the jets.
According to Ahmed, Iraq will wage a massive attack on insurgents with the help of the jets.

Getting the Frogfoot.
Russia knows about the threat from the bearded savages. This country’s leadership has chosen to ignore them.
Wow, that was fast, Harry Reid would still be blocking the
motion for Piper Cubs.
Reporters and military stuff. They can never seem to get it right. The Su-25 isn’t a fighter jet, it’s a close air support aircraft. Kind of a dim Russian attempt at an A-10. The Iraqis had a few and they didn’t fare well.
Obama has created Al-Qaeda-stan, maybe the 4th biggest oil producer on Earth.
And now Putin is making friends with this new country.
Lessay Obama is SUPER nice, but you were Prez and you were really bad:
What has Obama done that you would have done differently...?
“The jets were delivered by a Russian An-124 transport plane in a dismantled state, and are expected to be set up and become operational within 3-4 days.”
Who wants to be the first one to fly one of these things?
Antonov An-22 Antheus Cock
Putin is no friend of our USA, but those attack jets are air assets the Iraqi government needs now. I hope Putin sent along some Russian pilots as they are much more skilled than the ones in Iraq. Obummer will dither until the bad Islamists flying black flags run all the Mid East.
There is a crap ton of trained up Chechens fighting in Syria and Iraq. By many accounts the Chechens are even highly esteemed for their leadership and cohesion. Let ISIS establish a state and those Chechens start eyeballing their homeland inside Russia as a future part of the caliphate.
Putin is playing the game to win. Collecting resources and arming new allies. Instead of opening up north american oil and mineral exploration Obama shuts down hundreds of power plants a year.
You REALLY think Putin is buddy-buddy with Al-Qaeda?
Dayummmm. Just dayyyummmm.
“Obama has created Al-Qaeda-stan, maybe the 4th biggest oil producer on Earth.”
We should have torched the oil wells when we split.
Or those nice jets will make nice new toys for ISIS when they get control of Iraq. The have all the wonderful USA toys we gave to the cowards who ran and gave away all the toys.
This country’s leadership welcomes the threat from the bearded savages.
If the good guys....just about every country except US, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar can put it together, they can encircle ISIS and kill the cancer before it spreads to the Med, to Turkey (NATO member), and then there's no stopping them, or so it seems.
You are saying these two a/c are in the same class ?
Perhaps I am misunderstanding you.
Russia fills the vacuum caused by Obama’s incompetence. Reports I’ve been reading indicate the pilots will be Iranian as Iraq doesn’t have any type of an Air Force or trained pilots.
No. Not at all.
They must have some trained pilots -- as we WERE in the midst of delivering 36 brand new F-16s to them.
Iraqi government officials said Sunday that Russian experts had arrived in Iraq to help the army get 12 new Russian warplanes into the fight against Sunni extremists, while the extremists declared their leader the caliph, or absolute ruler, of all jihadi organizations worldwide.
The Russian move was at least an implicit rebuke to the United States, which the Iraqis believe has been too slow to supply American F-16s and attack helicopters although sales of such warplanes are now in process.
In the coming three or four days the aircraft will be in service to support our forces in the fight against the insurgents of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, said Gen. Anwar Hama Ameen, the commander of the Iraqi Air Force, referring to five SU-25 aircraft that were flown into Iraq aboard Russian cargo planes Saturday night, and two more expected later Sunday.
It’s simple — elections have consequences and those thinking in third world terms will elect a third-world citizen.
What kind of ordinance was delivered what amount? All dressed up and no where to deliver?
To be clear, pilots that fly the A-10 are ‘fighter pilots,’ just as much as any pilot that flies the F-16. F/A-18, F-15, F-22, etc. Go into a bar full of fighter pilots and tell everyone that Hog Drivers are not fighter pilots and you will won’t get any back-up from the F-16/F-15/F-22/F/A-18 guys.
It is the Navy that makes a distinction between “attack” and “fighter.” The Air Force does not and besides, the A-10 carries heaters and has achieved A/A kills, too include one with a LGB.
All jets that drop bombs are CAS/’attack’ aircraft.
CAS is a mission not an aircraft type. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffas.org%2Firp%2Fdoddir%2Fdod%2Fjp3_09_3.pdf&ei=yoSwU6LmCIuqyATa1ILAAg&usg=AFQjCNFKlMriw2PpW-BG2_Z4gZ2UrlXVmA&bvm=bv.69837884,d.aWw
B-1’s fly CAS in Afghanistan, as do the F-15E and F-16, and F/A-18.
CAS is the close application of air power while under positive control. Low flying has to do with the threat, A/A threat, mostly. If we control the skies (no enemy air) and the SAMs are shut-down, why fly low to the ground when any Haji on the ground can shoot you? Don’t need to when you have accurate weapons.
I remember an article from years past and found it: http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2001/052001/05062001/271306
“The Iraqis had a few and they didn’t fare well.”
For information, this is true because they never entered the fight, never attacked anybody. US troops on the ground were never under attack by ANY enemy air. Last time that US troops came under enemy aircraft fire was in Korea.
Delivery with training to be provided.
They have no MR pilots, none at all.
Jumping from one jet to another is not done, can’t be done, need all sorts of training, from ground school and systems knowledge to weapons, tactics and procedures. And with jets delivered with no trained pilots, and no AGE equipment, they make nice props for ramp photos but nothing else.
They don’t know how to start the jet, let alone fight with it.
“Obama has created Al-Qaeda-stan, maybe the 4th biggest oil producer on Earth.
And now Putin is making friends with this new country.”
On the contrary, Putin is cementing alliances with their enemies, the Syrian, Iraqi and Iranian governments.
If local bearded moslems attempt to operate jets-—a real show is coming—popcorn please!
>What has Obama done that you would have done differently...?<
I would have realized that I had f’d up royally and known that I could never regain the area now occupied by ISIS unless I had boots on the ground.
So what to do? No boots on the ground but I would support the Kurds and I would support whoever is in charge of Basra (export oil goes through Basra).
I would tell the Saudis (they’re passing kidney stones right now) to stop supporting terrorism and building mosques in my country and be veeeery nice to me or I’ll withdraw my protection. (See how fast ARAMCO personnel will haul a$$ and oil facilities come to a grinding halt).
Then I’ll sit back for the time being and see how the camel jockeys react and be ready for my next move. Of course I would’ve fired John F’n Kerry a long time ago and replaced him with Trey Gowdey or the mustachioed ex-ambassador to the UN and would have instructed them: “Go ahead, display all your balls because I will cover your butt from tip to toe.”
Jumping from one jet to another is not done, cant be done, need all sorts of training,
That I understand.
But I would've thought that, with delivery imminent, at least some Iraqi pilots would've cycled thru Sheppard AFB, then Holloman or Luke -- wherever F-16 training is conducted.
So, Iraq is buying their aircraft in kit form from "Jets Я Us". Is experience in 'paint by numbers' a requirement for those assembling these machines?
With you there, but just a few completed Lackland language school and the jets were to be built and accepted (’delivered’) and then sit on the ramp waiting for the rest of the training and logistic train to follow.
AFSAT has not trained any pilots for this program as the training pipeline is jammed full so the political idea from bammy and kerry was to get the jets delivered, regardless, as it ‘sends a message.”
“operational within 3-4 days” = Russian pilots.
And with jets delivered with no trained pilots, and no AGE equipment,
They didn’t fly themselves there...
They didn’t come out of mothballs, not
and be reassembled in a matter of days....by people
who don’t know how, then flown on CAS sorties by
Here my son...
What’s this Imam, is it the key to paradise?
No, it’s the key to that jet over there, it will
take you to paradise...
Fox’s Wendell Goler today said the the 500 men, boots on the ground Obama has ordered to Iraq will “not be exposed to combat”.
Oh really Wendell?
Tell that to the families of any of those 500 troops that is the first war casualty of Obama’s folly.
I did not say they had jets yet. I said these Russian jets going to Iraq will make nice new toys for ISIS to use when they over run RagBad and control the country.
No, the Russian pilots will fly them to Syria.
Funny. Jets were/would have been delivered by US pilots.
We did not do a mate-through-delivery option as agreed between Turkey and Egypt by Ambassador Walker.
They are not flyable as they have no one that knows how to service, maintain, start the darned thing. It ain’t a key and the AGE equipment is beyond the iraqi dunderhead, let alone flying a F-16.
It should then be interesting to watch them bomb jahidis.
Yup. . .drop away and let allah do the aiming. . .
And, all the while going up against the JV team! (Bowbama's term for the terrorists)
A "message" empty of any meaning. I.e., an "Obama Special". Now, I understand.
Thank you President Putin.
ISIS ALREADY has marvelous weapons supplied by the US government they use to slaughter Christians and Shias with.
~Reporters and military stuff. They can never seem to get it right. The Su-25 isnt a fighter jet, its a close air support aircraft. Kind of a dim Russian attempt at an A-10. The Iraqis had a few and they didnt fare well.~
It did perfectly well for Iraqis during their war with Iran, the problem is they had only a handful of these.
It did a good job for the Russians too in both Afghanistan and Chechnya, greatly outclassed more expensive faster afterburning jets in CAS roles.
BTW, it is not that much similar to A-10, more like A-4 but heavily armored and more firepower.
You can actually find numerous videos of it’s operation on youtube, filmed by jihadis or Georgian military with an aircraft getting missile hits and still attacking targets after that.
You can also find videos uploaded by Russian ground crews with Frogfoots shredded to bits by 23 mm and at the same time missing an engine after manpad hit which actually made it back to base.
They are geniuses, aren’t they. . .just ask them
We are ruled by a cabal of...eleven-year olds.
