Skip to comments.Conservatives, Losing One Battle Doesn’t Mean We Have Lost The War
Posted on 06/30/2014 4:14:28 AM PDT by Kaslin
I was furious that Thad Cochran slimed his way to victory, but every time we hardcore conservatives lose a battle, it seems a contingent of bitter-enders starts up about how the Republicans and Democrats are exactly the same, and how theyll refuse to vote in the general, and how theyll take their collective ball and go home.
Thats crazy talk. We can get even with the GOP establishment later; we need to beat the Democrats first.
Now, many of my good friends disagree with me here, but I respect them enough to say what I think. And I think that when we focus on the establishments antics in Mississippi instead of focusing on November, we make Barack Obama happier than if he got to play 18 holes with the ghost of Karl Marx.
Let us assume that Thad Cochran didnt play fair. Now let me assume the role of your father:
Life is not fair.
Yeah, I was shocked shocked! that our opponents refused to commit ritual suicide in order to allow our chosen candidate to waltz into the nomination that, a couple weeks ago, was his for his taking. Was anyone expecting the establishment to go quietly, to rollover, to not use every tool at its disposal to hold on to power?
Were conservatives. Were not supposed to make excuses, but Im sure hearing a lot in the wake of Cochrans win.
Yeah, his win. News Flash: Thad Cochran got more votes than our guy. That means our guy failed to perform the most important function of a conservative politician.
He failed to win.
Hell, he couldnt handle the GOP establishment calling him a racist. Why does anyone imagine he could have handled the Democrats doing it in November? Theyre the pros!
Yeah, Cochran dared to appeal to Democrats who voted for him. It would be nice to have other Republicans embrace this innovative concept.
Am I happy about the slanders Cochrans buddies spread, or about the way the K Street crew spent zillions to keep Thad awake and away from the livestock long enough to get nominated?
No, but that ship has sailed and sank. Winners leverage their assets into victory.
Am I suggesting that we forgo our vengeance? Never! Im all about payback. But getting even with these K Street creeps can wait. I say defeat the Democrats first. Instead of choosing to fight two opponents at once, we can deal with these establishment tools later from a position of strength when Reids reign is just a bad memory.
Im getting sick of this quitter talk about how we cant possibly win, about how everyones against us, about how this struggle being hard is some sort of cosmic injustice perpetrated upon us by mysterious forces beyond our control.
George Washington and his men ate their damn shoes as they shivered in Valley Forge. Thats adversity, not having to somehow find the strength to carry on after nominating a Republican who is sure to win in November and has a mere 88 percent conservative rating.
This isnt about our feelings. This isnt about our principles either. There is no principle that compels us to allow Barack Obama to retain a Senate majority that absolutely will confirm a Supreme Court justice who will absolutely vote to:
Might some GOP senate dork vote to confirm someone like that? Maybe, but a Democrat absolutely will. Refusing to support every GOP nominee means you are choosing to be silenced, disenfranchised and disarmed.
Yeah, thatll sure show Thad Cochran and all his pals. The only thing hed like more is a lap dance in the champagne room at the local 4-H Club.
So weve lost a battle. Weve lost them before, and well lose them again. Did you think this business of taking our country back would be easy? Did you expect a cakewalk? Well people, this is where we winnow out the summer soldiers and sunshine patriots.
My new book, Conservative Insurgency, is a speculative history of what it will take to win this contest for our nations soul, and it has a subtitle: The Struggle to Take America Back 2009-2041. Thats right this fight will take decades. The progressives couldnt run a great country like ours into the dirt overnight and we wont pick it back up in a day.
So heres the deal. We suck it up, vote for Thad if we live in Mississippi, and focus on fights where we can run up the score. Louisiana. Colorado. Alaska. How about Joni Ernst in Iowa? Are you so mad at the GOP that youll abandon this Army veteran to a trial lawyers puppet who thinks farmers are dummies?
Yeah, the establishment sucks. But so does helping it win by indulging your frustrations instead of standing up, brushing yourself off, and getting back in the ring for another round. You want to send a message? Let victory be your message.
But theres no easy way to win.
A third party isnt going to do it.
Refusing to vote for GOP candidates isnt going to do it.
Trying to occupy some pseudo-moral high ground by refusing to dirty your hands by making hard choices between sub-optimal options isnt going to do it.
Theres one path to victory.
We fight for the best GOP candidate in the primary.
We fight for the GOP candidate in the general.
We fight, starting at the precinct level and working up, for control of the Republican Party apparatus.
Look how far weve come. Ted Cruz. Rand Paul. Mike Lee. Plus all the rest trying their best to prove their conservative bona fides to us. Oh, and Ill have fries with that, Eric Cantor.
All in just five short years.
Think how far we can go to returning America to greatness if we fight.
How many times have we heard THAT before?
Time for the GOP-E to reap the whirlwind it has sown!
We will fight against the GOP when it is the same as the
We will fight against the GOP when it is comprised
of the proObama Team Romney.
We will fight against the GOP when it is comprised
of the conservative-backstabbing Team Romney.
This article presupposes that Cochran won but did not cheat. I think he cheated twice - once in the primary to prevent McDaniel from getting over 50% and once in the runoff by getting illegal voters to the polls and by not counting absentees. Cochran’s mom is the one in charge of the biggest Dem county.
Nevertheless, I prefer a GOP Senate. Cochran and other cheaters will get their due - but I’m not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.
Which of these three is unlike the others?
Time someone said those things. Thank You.
All too often it seems there are those more interested in destroying the Republican party than they are in achieving conservative values.
If I recall, we lost most of the battles during the revolutionary war.
If I lived in Mississippi I could not vote for the “animal lover” Cochran.
“If I recall, we lost most of the battles during the revolutionary war. Still won.”
We haven’t won a battle in decades, and I don’t see French or Spanish sails on the horizon. Conservatives have lost the culture war; now it is about preserving our way of life despite the larger culture (or more appropriately, cultural vacuum).
Same old crap. Fortunately a lot more conservatives are waking up to this little game that keeps liberals in office. It’s LIBERALS vs CONSERVATIVES. If you want to win the future, spend your time and money on conservatives, not liberals of any party.
Professional politicians don’t care one bit about you or me.
They just need us to be dumb enough to vote for them.
And if that won’t work, they need others to be dumb enough to vote for them.
I think this showed that more than anything else.
Those of us who have been around the block more than once know that "later" never comes.
The alternative to not fighting is capitulation and submission...I’m not ready for that alternative.
Report from Charles Johnson indicates that Cochran will be filing a legal challenge in court today. Don’t we need to determine if laws were broken?
I've expressed this thought many times. I don't want a majority in the US Senate with the likes of McCain, Cochran, Murkowski, Ayotte, Flake, Collins etc etc setting the tone. They scare me.
We haven’t won a battle in “decades”? What is your definition of battle, because in the case of this article it was a single election. Conservatives have won many battles in the last 2 decades, in fact the desperation in this particular battle was gratifying, even though it was a loss.
LOL! that's the part that gets me, too. They want to act like this is a rare or new occurrence, but some of us have been watching Republicans crap on their base for decades now.
We shall DEFEAT Cockran in November, so that this STUNT is NEVER pulled on us again.
That is how to deal with it.
This author can say what he likes but I think any conservative who votes for Cochran in the general election is a fool. I’d be more than happy to lose the State to a “D” just to send this much needed lesson to the GOPe. Ditch the base and you lose.
I don’t think the battle is over yet - McDaniel has already found 1500 invalid votes from ONE county (RATs that voted in the prior election).
Schlicter recommends doing the exact same thing in we have done for a long time in the hopes it has a different outcome.
He is wrong.
I disagree. IMO it’s the right call. There is no principle to cut off your nose to spite your face. That’s childish and stupid.
SCREW this guy and the book he is peddling.
This Carolinian is done with being labeled a racist and troglodyte by gopE.
Done with being lectured by our own freaking Presidential candidate that we need not be fearful of the other candidate who is now the President that said loser candidate is currently railing against. Jackass. Scared now Juan?
Sorry Thom.....You’re on your own, and here is a preemptive FU for you too.
Obviously, there is no principle to work within the boundaries of the rulebook, either.
Cochran ran to the dems, acted like a dem...
So they should be the force to elect him, right?
That would be the “principled” thing to do.
The patriot act with the department of Reichland security and the TSA. A huge medicare expansion. A light bulb ban. Shall I go on or do you get it?
Go ahead and vote for a progressive republican. I will not.
That is why I support an Article V state convention to propose amendments. We are at the cusp of open tyranny, and history proves that federal elections alone will not stop the march of oppression.
MS #3 ping
The problem is the Neoeuropa of the Northeast.
Those states must be purged from America to eliminate the principle cancer. Perhaps chemo or radiation can be used to eliminate the tumors in California
And screw the four decade battle plan, you want a battle plan?
Here is THE battle plan.
1) No more open primaries.
Offer voters a clear conservative choice instead of moderate mush.
Ted Cruz will never be our Presidential Candidate, particularly if Hillary is anointed early, as long as we Republicans allow cross over voting.
Cochran is living in open adultery with a woman who isn’t his wife.
I can not vote for such a man.
Even Bill Clinton didn’t behave thusly.
“Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Mitt Romney and Karl Rove have more damage to conservative America (over the last four years) than Harry Reid.”
This is very true. It's amusing how the same people that talk about rugged individualism wet their pants, soil thier BVDs, announce that it's all over, and curl up in the fetal position after almost every setback.
Liberals know how to win. Conservatives don't.
Time to get on the ball.
When, after “we” take the Senate? But the Presidential elecrion will be coming up, and the GOP will as usual foist a not-conservative on us. Then can we refuse to vote for him? But “we” must take the White House, after that we can fight the liberals in our midst.
We have to have conservatives firat, to pass a conservative agenda. Thad Cochran told the black democrat voters to who, he pandered, that they could blame the Tea Party for obstructing Obama. The rest of that sentence is “vote for me, I won’t”.
We’re not. He’s getting message after message that he better hope he gets the same rat votes in the GE that he paid for in the run-off, because he’s not getting those of conservatives.
Next up will be the outright insults. Because that’s a great way to get someone to vote for you.
Win what? Whichever side “wins”, as presently constituted, they’re both for amnesty. Cochran “blamed”conservatives, to the faces of democrat voters, for obstructing Obama.
That’s already started, here on FR.
To Hell with Thad Cochran and his socialist cronies in the GOP leadership! He won the primary runoff by appealing to the racism and greed of the urban Parasite Class ... let the urban Parasite Class vote for him. Or not. He does not represent the Productive Class or the Protective Class. He's worse than a democrat.
Thad Cochran delenda est.
It’s all they have left, once they know they’ve lost the argument.
I’ve already been called a Klukker for thinking $17T in debt was unsustainable.
I await their further insults...
Yea, remember the thread from the other night, when a couple of Cochran shills characterised our reaction as “hurt feelings”? They really do see this as a football game, only both sides play for the same team, just different jerseys.
Yes same old crap. It’s not Republican vs Democrat, it is the aristocracy vs us. Wake up
My grandmother was involved in the civil rights movement. No way I’m voting for someone who calls me a Klukker for thinking $17T in debt is unsustainable.
The reason why conservatives don’t win is because instead of uniting like the left, they divide. Don’t blame the left, blame yourself
Or someone who demonises hos own purported side (conservatives) for obstructing the enemy’s agenda. That’s what an opposition party is supposed to do, but what would Cochran and his ilk know about obsteucting the left’s agenda? And these are the people we simply “must” have take the Senate? So they can do just what the rats would do, and use our support to do it?
