Both parents of a toddler who died in an unattended SUV in suburban Atlanta told investigators they did online research on how hot it needs to be for a child to die in an unattended vehicle, police said.

Justin Ross Harris, 33, faces murder charges in the death of his son, 22-month-old Cooper on June 18. While he had previously allegedly admitted to researching the subject, investigators now say Leanna Harris also went on line to learn about kids dying in hot cars. She has not been charged, but the revelation came on a search warrant released Sunday, which said she claimed she researched the subject because she was afraid it could happen.

Police say Cooper died after being left in the backseat of an SUV.

I try not to judge, but this is awful. Hard to believe it just happened by accident.

Almost as if they had spent a lot of time and effort to learn how to kill their kid.

They could have just dropped the kid off at a police or fire station.

The bad thing is, is that if they are proven to have used this to get rid of their toddler, how much more scorn will be heaped upon the tragedies that are actually accident....

I don’t know anything about this case, but I was doing similar research a couple of days ago. I don’t have any kids, though.

My research was related to a question from a friend who had some ideas about using technology to prevent such deaths from occurring.

So as bad as it looks, jumping to conclusions is just jumping to conclusions.

That’s hard to believe. Did they also research the many other bad things that can happen to kids?

So even if we give them the benefit of the doubt (likely unwarranted), what were they researching? How many minutes they could get away with before the kid died? Were they trying to push it to the limit and bring the kid to the brink of death?

Whether it was intentional or accidental, these folks need to fry, just like their kid did.

Thankfully, Georgia has a death penalty, and isn’t afraid to use it.

I always think a majority of children left to die in cars during the summer are killed on purpose. Its the perfect crime especially since its rarely prosecuted as child endangerment.

Did dad take toddler in to eat at Chick fil A? Or did he go through the drive thru? When did the research take place? Three weeks earlier when there was a similar story in the news? Or the evening before?

The same people who “forgot” their children in a car would never forget their cell phone.

You know after seeing pictures of the beautiful little boy it is hard to believe his own parents can research and carry out his murder. What monsters they must be.

As a result of this horrific case - there have probably been thousands of people searching this topic.

I wondered if the stupid couple tried to skip on daycare costs and considered leaving the child in the car for a few hours here and there. What is so compelling is the fact that the daycare was in the same building as the father’s job. (Home Depot). And why did he check his car at lunchtime? Was it to see whether the child was dead or alive? Poor little boy - we may never know the truth.
