Here Are The 28.5 Million Cars Recalled By GM In The First Half Of 2014

One could say things about what is now without doubt the biggest company joke in the history of the US - maybe global - automotive sector, putting even East Germany's infamous Trabant to shame.

Things like following the just announced latest recall of another 7.6 million cars across models from 1997 to 2014, and another 800K+ cars thrown in just because, GM has recalled more cars in the first 6 months of 2014 than it has sold in all of 2011, 2012 and 2013. Which incidentally would be true as the chart below shows.

They’ll just be bailed out again.

Key point: I’m LOVING having this to throw in the faces of those that defended the bailout...

How convenient that this all happens after they sell the shares of the company owned by American taxpayers. I wonder how much of this was known before dumping the stocks.

“I wonder how much of this was known before dumping the stocks.”

Or before Bamster bailed out the UAW pension funds by “buying” GM.

Just spitballin here.....

Could we offer every illegal alien a recalled GM vehicle???

All they have to do is drive the vehicle down to the “special recall garage” located in Mexico.

Give them $15 for a successful one way delivery of the vehicle

Proving that Government Motors operates just as we would expect of any government agency.

My 1989 Oldsmobile is not on the list, but a few months ago it cut out on me just like is being reported.

I was driving along when it shut down. Luckily I was able to coast into a side street.

I was surprised how hard it was to steer and brake without the power steering and brakes.

1989? 25 yrs. old and it cut out on you? I hope you are being facetious.

I’m not kidding. The car’s in good shape. It only has 55,000 miles on it.

And the problem was the ignition system.

The announcement suggests worse, like the ignition rotating to the point where it would lock up the steering. That would be a scream. And they say in the meantime, use the ignition key by itself.

lock up the steering

My steering didn't locked up, but it sure was hard to steer. I could only turn the wheel a little bit.

I'm not saying that GM is to blame for my 1989 ignition system failing while I was driving down the road, but that is what happened, exactly like it's been described in the news. The engine cuts out, and you lose the power steering and brakes. I was lucky that there weren't any cars around me and that I could coast into a side street where I could safely wait for AAA.

I had to have the ignition system replaced. I wouldn't expect GM to pay for it, given the age of the car, but it is interesting.

What's funny is the aftermath.

There's a Goodyear service center about a mile from my house, where I had the repairs done. When I was walking up there to pick up the car, a couple of cop cars pulled up and stopped me as a burglary suspect.

They didn't arrest me when they saw I was an old white man. (I had on a ski parka with the hood up when they lugged me.)
