Obama to go it alone on immigration, pleasing few

President Barack Obama's abrupt shift from seeking immigration legislation to pursuing a go-it-alone executive strategy raises expectations among immigration advocates that Obama may have trouble satisfying while setting up a clash with House Republicans who've already threatened to sue him.

Limited in his powers to ease deportations and under pressure to crack down on a tide of Central American children entering the U.S. without their parents, Obama has only so many options to tackle an immigration conundrum complicated by a midterm election that could cost him Democratic control of the Senate.

Obama on Monday blamed Republican resistance for the demise of sweeping immigration legislation and vowed to bypass Congress to patch up the system. "If Congress will not do their job, at least we can do ours," Obama said.

But seeking to slow deportations while simultaneously stemming the flow of young people across the U.S. Southern border presents Obama with a knotty set of policy choices.

You should vote (even if it is for some obscure third party candidate, or write someone in) so they know you got off the couch and showed up; politicians of both parties love it when people are so apathetic they don’t even show up (those people are easier to lead around by the nose).

The problem for the Republicans is that they are trying to attract “legacy Americans” (the dwindling remnants of the Euro-Americans that built this country), and in doing so ignore the conservative base. These are fiscal rather than social conservatives (liberal whites who don’t want to keep paying for blacks and illegals), and they are easily influenced by the “media”; in tiptoeing around their sensitivities, they abandon the important moral issues.

They will really miss it if Shariah Law is put in its place, and the genocide of gays begin.

Every silver lining has to have its dark cloud. While I do not favor any aspect of the Shariah Law (being the most hopeless hodgepodge of totally contradictory case law ever conceived), the very fact that it COULD be imposed should shock even the most wild-eyed liberal into at least a few moments or relative lucidity and sanity.

But perhaps I hold out for far too much. Madness feeds upon itself, and never seems to be consumed.

The frenzy continues.

Let’s try this: how about we nominate a true conservative? Not going to happen. Why not? The GOP base is conservative. Not going to happen because the game is rigged by front loading open primaries and diverting party money to liberals. Then they expect you to fall in line in November. Forget it. The GOP has to die. National election don’t matter anyway. The agencies rule Washington.

obama also thanks you for your vote.

The epithet “statist” helps your feeble attempt at argumentation not at all.

We must work as hard as possible to get the best candidate we can (Cruz in 2016?).

After that we must vote for the mos conservative candidate, even if it doesn’t meet the impossible Conservative Purity Test.

Thank you for obamacare.

Like I said.....standard rules for GOPe Republicans - attack conservatives first, then figure out how to lose to Democrats convincingly so the unprincipled keep voting for them..

While we've gotten on a side discussion here, I'd harken back to my original post regarding enforcing immigration laws and Amnesty and nullifying Obama's EOs. Just exactly what is impossibly purist about making a candidate pledge to obey the laws and respect America's sovereignty? That's impossibly purist?

Keep in mind that before 2016, the existing immigration laws may be Comprehensive Immigration Reform, not the current never enforced laws.

If this ends up being the case, 2016 will not matter because a Democrat is sure to win with the new Illegals getting amnesty.

If Obama acts on immigration without Congressional approval I could see that triggering armed insurrection in border states.

I can see a lot of talk happening. More? I'm not so confident.

Pubs should let Obama go it alone.

By the November elections, he will have so fouled up immigration & the border situation that Majority leader Reid will be history. The American people will be furious at the resulting horror of an open border with criminals & terrorists poring over the border, & an irresponsible, out of control President. The humanitarian crisis created by Obama will make Katrina look like one flooded basement with a dead pet gerbil. It will be his crisis & his alone, just as Bush owned Katrina.

Passing bipartisan immigration legislation with the dual despots Reid & Obama is a waste of time. Reid will stifle any debate in the Senate, & regardless of what Congress passes, Obama will violate the law with impunity - see Obamacare for reference. The laws necessary to secure the border are already on the books. Besides, if Obama wanted a secure border, why would he care what the law says?

Rats want this legislation, however bad it might be, as political cover for the November elections. With its passing, Pubs will share responsibility for the continuing crisis, effectively neutering it as a campaign issue.

Judging from the latest polling on the kiddie stampede at the border, Obama may have finally bitten off more than he can chew with this.

Neither McCain nor Romney got us into this mess. People who stayed on the sidelines did (especially 2012).

And you are a freaking moron if you think both McCain and Romney wouldn't have done the same thing! Both of them were immigration radicals.

Thanks for obamacare.

LOL, right. My candidate was slimed by Romney and his thugs. Any decent candidate was destroyed early and often and now we know, after watching the Mississippi race how that happens. And tell me exactly what the difference is between Obama care and Romney care?

Your candidate won. Tanks to people who don’t know the difference between good and perfect.

>>And tell me exactly what the difference is between Obama care and Romney care?<<

Well since Romneycare was a state initiative and Romney was clear he would repeal obozocare, I would say that your vote made obozocare the law of the land and applies to me.

Thanks again for that.

Yes, Democrats would win give the case you cite. And that is why I see it as an absolute imperative that the GOP fight any and all legislation regarding any sort of “comprehensive” that is really nothing more than a coward’s mechanism to allow criminals here illegally to remain here legally, and to provide them with the legitimization of citizenship, pathwayed or otherwise.

Of course, he’s going it alone. He’s completely and totally castrated SCOTUS and Congress so he’s now the WON and only branch of government. Heil, Prez Stompy Feet!

Public schooled tween-aged nephews were here for their summer visit and insisted dictators were the best leaders, followed by tyrants. Of course, they couldn’t name a single dictator or what he’d done that was so wonderful. No, don’t anyone start on homeschooling. If these parents approve of this sort of education, then homeschooling would be even worse than public schooling.
