European Rights Court Rules in Favor of French Burqa Ban

The European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday rejected a claim by a young Muslim woman that France's ban on the wearing of burqas and niqabs in public violates her rights. The French law banning the burqa, a full-body covering that includes a mesh over the face, and the niqab, a full-face veil with an opening for the eyes, went into effect in April 2011.

It has pitted religious freedom advocates against those who say the Islamic veil is demeaning to women and inconsistent with France's rigorously enforced secularism. 2011: Burqa ban stirs debate 2011: Fighting France's 'burqa ban'

A 24-year-old French woman brought the case to Europe's top rights court in Strasbourg because she says the ban infringes on her ability to live according to her religious faith, culture and personal convictions.

But the court said Tuesday that it found that the French law doesn't breach the European Convention on Human Rights.

Every restriction put on Muslims will be put on Christians times ten.

I would be surprised if Stephen Breyer or Anthony Kennedy eventually site this case in a future decision they make.

So, what you are saying is you agree with the Muslim way of ordering society more than the Judeo-Christian one?

I would have claimed this was a safety issue. If you can’t ID some one committing a terrorist act or even holding up a 7-11 it becomes much easier to get away with it. In that way it wouldn’t tread on Religious freedom and I see no right to full body covering.

More old testament as in an eye for an eye...

So do you enjoy downplaying, excusing, and/or ignoring how the muslims are murdering christians in the middle east?? Do you get pleasure by shilling for those who murder christians only because of their religion???

There are truly some strange people in here.

History, clear back to the crusades clearly show that the only thing that the whole of the islamic world respects is overwhelming force and the willingness to use it against them....

You can tippy-toe around this all you want but that is what is true....

If we do nothing when they attack our way of life they think we are weak and we just become a bigger target.

Think like a christian in this and you will die like the christians are in the middle east right now.

The islamic world does not think as we do. Their holy book tells them to attack us and dominate us no matter how many centuries it takes. And they are well on their way, again....

I am not downplaying or excusing anything. I am a U.S. citizen and a Christian. I believe in those philosophies. I believe they are more powerful that Islam. I will stick with them. You believe they are more powerful, so you want to change and make the U.S. and Christianity into Islam. That is never going to get you victory.

If you believe that way is better than our way, grab a prayer rug and go over there. More power to you. But stop trying to recreate it in the U.S.

Thanks for posting. The European Court of Human Rights vs. Islamic jurisprudence. The old state and the neo-superstate vs stateless (interstate) longer-running totalitarians.

This ought to be interesting. Very interesting.

nick -- Islam destroyed 2 out of the 3 of the centres of Christianity.

in the 9th century, 1/3rd of Christians were under the leadership of the Catholicos of the Assyrian Church (the Church of the east that spread across Arabia, Persia, into India and even Mongolia), 1/3rd under the spiritual leadership of the Patriarch of Constantinople and 1/3rd under the Pope of Rome and the Pope of Alexandria

By 1300, the Ancient Church of the East was nearly exterminated -- mass genocide.

By 1700 much of Orthodoxy was overwhelmed, but didn't collapse.

we CANNOT turn the other church in this world
