NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. First Lady Michelle Obamas healthy school lunch menu is finally getting some love from a group of young eaters.
Some 3,000 pigs at My Blue Heaven Farm in Rhode Island have been dining on students lunch leftovers from two nearby school systems, according to WoonsocketCall.com.
The pigs are enjoying half-eaten tuna sandwiches and other food scraps students discard during their lunch periods as part of a new recycling program established by the town of Cumberland, the news site reports.
The recycling program has been so successful that officials are planning to expand it in the fall.
The school food thats being repurposed as pig feed is described as nutritious, and it certainly is.
The federal governments Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 places strict limits on the amount of calories, sugar, sodium and fat that goes into school lunches. Since those ingredients are what give food much of its taste, students all across the nation are refusing to eat their bland, government-mandated meals, leaving schools to dispose massive quantities of leftover food.
Presumably, that is whats happening in the two Rhode Island districts North Smithfield and Burrillville that are sending their scraps to My Blue Heaven Farm. Both districts are participants in the National School Lunch Program, which is implementing the hated federal lunch rules.
Its not much of a stretch to conclude that the food recycling program is a direct result of Washington D.C.s effort to control what students are eating in schools. Schools are being forced to prepare unpopular meals, students are refusing to eat them, and the scraps are ending up in pig troughs.
Just something to keep in mind the next time you pay your taxes and the next time you hear a politician whine that Americas schools are underfunded and being cut to the bone.
What are the pigs in the White House eating?crack
Hey, they’ve to to something with all us “reactionaries” who fail “reeducation.”
I hate to keep asking the same question every other day, but, is this post real or satire? So many ridiculous things happen these days, who knows?
It’s presented as factual. Of course, so is a great deal about the First Wookie.
No, not satire, but not really a big deal either. Pig farms benefit greatly from the leftovers produced by a wide range of organizations, so it’s hardly surprising that the poorly-received (and therefore leftover-productive) Obama lunch menu would end up feeding pigs too. Las Vegas is a huge feed producer for hog farms.
Huh, Obama just praised the White House pasterie chef. So public school children eat crap while Michelle dines on pies and japanese beef. Typical leftwing hypocrisy.
“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
I would love to have Sarah and Ann Coulter have a little fun with this. You know Ms. Maddow and John Stewart would consider it grist for the rhetorical milling. Extra, Extra; read all about it! “First Lady’s Lunch Menu Rejects = Filler for the Hog Troughs!” Farmer’s complaining about newly sickened Hogs. Piglets ‘prefer starving’ to First Lady’s Lunch Menu Rejects.
They’ll live, but they won’t like it.
Perhaps they will - quite a few conservative media types lurk here.
Feed em MOO-Chele Too! ! ! !
Seems somehow appropriate: being used to make bacon, pork chops, spare ribs...
Maybe if we continue feeding kids slop they won’t eat, the price of bacon will drop. It would be the first positive thing to come out of these six terrible years with Obama in the White House.
o/~ It’s the circle of life... o/~
Watch for very lean bacon. Then you’ll know. :^)
obama made some lame joke about the WH pastry chef putting crack in his pie...(thass why he just cant stop eating them pie)
mooch recognized the gaffe and verbally gobsmacked potus selfie by saying “there is no crack in the pie”
lobsta is her crack
Finally the White House supporting something wildly popular.
Eh? I thought feeding pigs food rejected by the children was against the law.
Is that Mooooooochelle in the middle of the picture?
So I guess I can expect to see extra nutritious bacon in the store soon?
Turning tuna sandwiches into pork loin and BBQ ribs sounds good to me.
But I like tuna too, and pay a lot more for it. (about $50 a pound overall by our calculations) Sport fishing is very expensive, but lots of fun and the fish is delicious.
As long as it increases the bacon supply, it is not all bad.
