Conservatives Announce Lawsuit in Mississippi Senate Race
Roll Call ^ | July 2, 2014 | Alexis Levinson

Posted on 07/02/2014 7:32:10 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

A conservative group has taken up state Sen. Chris McDaniel’s cause, filing a lawsuit against the Mississippi Secretary of State and the Republican Party of Mississippi to challenge the results of the recent runoff for Senate.

Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., defeated McDaniel by a 6,700-vote margin in the June 24 runoff and won the GOP nomination.

Now a conservative group, True the Vote, alleged Wednesday they were denied access to election records, specifically in Hinds and Rankin Counties. They also allege that they found evidence of unlawful “double-voting,” in which Mississippians who voted in the Democratic primary later voted in the Republican runoff three weeks later.

But McDaniel and his supporters face long odds to overturn the results of the runoff. Mississippi state election law has no provision for a recount, and observers say McDaniel is unlikely to find enough illegally cast votes to make up the difference between him and Cochran. What’s more, it’s difficult to prove a runoff voter does not plan to vote for a Republican in the general election.

Still, McDaniel has refused to concede in the week since the runoff. He alleges Cochran won with the support of Democrats who did not intend to support him in the general election. McDaniel has also been sending fundraising emails asking people to help him mount his own lawsuit to challenge the election.

In a fundraising email sent Wednesday, McDaniel called the election “a sham” and said his campaign had “already found thousands of irregularities in the voting process.” He also voiced support for the grounds of True the Vote lawsuit.

“True the Vote is concerned with maintaining the integrity of Mississippi’s election process,” McDaniel said in a statement. “The voters should be able to trust that the manner in which their elected officials are chosen is not compromised, and that the rule of law is adhered to. It is vital we be allowed to examine election data to make sure that happens.”

McDaniel’s allies also alleged Democrats were paid $15 per vote.

“Thad Cochran defeated tea party challenger Chris McDaniel by a few thousand votes but we have learned that voter fraud and offering to pay Democrat voters $15 per vote is what tipped the election in Cochran’s favor,” wrote Todd Cefaratti in a fundraising please for TeaParty.Net.

The race is rated Safe Republican by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

I am sure that the courts will quickly find that we have no standing for a lawsuit.
That is “Just Us” in the current age.

“The race is rated Safe Republican by the Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call...”

From what I understand, many conservatives are mad enough to either write in McDaniels’ name on the ballot, vote for the Democrat candidate, or refrain from voting at all. Due to the circumstances, I don’t think we can call this a “Safe Republican” race anymore. Way to go, GOPe.

Interesting that they choose to label True the Vote as a “Conservative Group”. As far as I know, their only issue is fair and open elections free of voter fraud and partisan abuse. If you oppose that, I guess Roll Call considers you a Liberal.

Are you surprised that while thew article identifies True the Vote as a conservative group, it doesn’t mention that they are also suing the IRS...

Great article, True the Vote is a great organization and libs have good reason to fear it.

I found a link last week on one of these threads to the RNC.

I wrote them that they need to demand Cochran step down and award the nomination to McDaniel. I promised never to donate or vote for one of their candidates again if they didn't.

If they continue to get calls, emails and faxes like that we may win in spite of them.

**& that’s with just less than half of the counties..if the other counties are looked at, he’s well within the margin for a judge to order a new election.
Need to judge shop like the libs do!

I worked for them one time from my home.

They sent voter entries and I was to look for discrepancies and report only.

It was fun.

Last time I couldn’t get their ‘layout’ to work on my machine so I wasn’t able to do anything.

Did they certify the race yet??

**************

Final numbers from the counties must be submitted by a July 7th deadline. That’s when we
expect certification. There are still absentee votes and affidavit ballots to be counted.

I came across this for another thread.

Beginning with the June 3, 2014, Primary Election, all Mississippians voting at the polls will be required to show a photo ID card. Also, individuals voting in person by absentee ballot in person in the Circuit Clerk’s office prior to the June 3, 2014 Primary Election Day will be required to show a photo ID.

Eligible voters casting an absentee ballot by mail for the Primary Election on June 3, 2014, do NOT have to show a photo ID. Also, overseas and uniformed military voting by absentee ballot by email or fax do not have to show a photo ID.

I saw a poll last night that Cochran’s support had collapsed and indicated that less than 30% of Mississippi republicans would vote for thad in November, some would stay home, some would vote for the democrat but most would “write in”. thad has apparently lost the support of many who voted for him in the runoff. He lost some voters to McDaniel before the runoff because of the actions of his campaign in their reach out to democrat efforts because it was coming out about the racist, kkk allegations but that apparently was overcome at $15 per vote. thad has lost more support since the election because of all of this mess created by his campaign, the republican party, the NRSC, senator wicker and certainly by the barbours.
