A conservative outside group whose efforts Sen. Ted Cruz backed has called for defunding the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Cruz, an NRSC vice chairman and Texas Republican, has not rebuked the effort.
This weekend, Senate Conservatives Fund launched a campaign calling on conservatives to pledge not to give any money to the NRSC in the aftermath of last weeks runoff in the Mississippi Senate race. As is typical, the NRSC backed Republican Sen. Thad Cochran, while the SCF and other outside groups backed his failed challenger, state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
The Senate Republican establishment betrayed the grassroots and recruited Democrats in Mississippi to defeat Chris McDaniel, the SCF petition said. Fight back by pledging not to donate to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Cochran finished behind McDaniel in the June 3 primary, but the senator came back to win the runoff three weeks later. To do this, Cochrans campaign and allies overtly recruited black voters a traditionally reliable Democratic voting block in Mississippi in the second match-up.
Back on Capitol Hill, the SCFs response to the race could get awkward for Cruz. He continues to serve as vice chairman for grass-roots outreach at the NRSC and previously pledged not to work to oust any GOP incumbent in the Senate.
But the Texas Republican supported the SCFs efforts in the past. He made an appearance in a recent SCF television ad to boost former Oklahoma Speaker of the House T.W. Shannon. Rep. James Lankford defeated Shannon in a GOP primary for Sen. Tom Coburns seat, which is open because the Oklahoma Republican is resigning at the end of this Congress.
Multiple queries to Cruzs office Sunday and Monday asking if he would disavow the SCFs effort to defund the NRSC yielded no response from the senator.
Majority-Leader-Wannabe Mitch McConnell, NRSC Chairman Jerry Moran, and the others who supported Thad Cochrans disgraceful attacks on Chris McDaniel are part of the problem, SCF President Ken Cuccinelli said in a message to supporters. These politicians dont believe in the principles of freedom that make America great. Their ideology is power and they will do anything to keep it.
Last October, the tension between Cruzs role at the NRSC and his backing of the SCF campaigns was apparent when the SCF endorsed Matt Bevin in the Kentucky Republican primary against Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
So? Cruz doesnt have to get into every single battle
Keep standing for truth, Ted!
Exactly. Ted Cruz is in no more way required to disavow anything than any liberal, especially to some liberal jackwad.
Instead, the jackwad should be asking Obama to disavow a sovereign United States, disavow illegal immigration, disavow fraudulent voting, disavow the abortion of millions of babies, disavow blah blah blah.
I give a little to SCF and would like to see Cruz support this effort, but I can also see that we must win the Senate.
If we put in people like Thad and capture the Senate we haven’t won anything.
From march 14, 2014:
‘The way Cruz sees it, theres just no way he can, in good conscience, get involved in Senate Republican primaries. To get involved is to side with incumbents, and to side with incumbents is to back Washingtons elite. It could anoint electable candidates, but not always the most conservative ones.’
Ted Cruz is not in the NRSC anymore
Freepers know that
Roll Call is way off
That was Cruz’ statement six mtts ago when he quit the nrsc
Exactly, and we also need to beware of the left attempting to insert themselves into the midst of what is a civil war, and they have no part in this, being anti-American from the start.
Apparently it was the RNSC money, 175K, that was used for the racist and kkk flyers as well as the robo-calls to democrats and at least part of the $15 per vote, walking around money”. Saleem Baird, a staff member of US senate member roger wicker (progressive, MS), was in charge of passing out the money. senator wicker’s office said the senator was proud of his effort and those of the NRSCs in behalf of senator cochran. I’m glad to see Senator Cruz separating himself from the RNSC.
