Chris McDaniel seeks cash to challenge "sham" Mississippi runoff

Chris McDaniel, the tea party-backed conservative who lost to Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., in the Republican Senate primary last week is ready to mount a legal challenge to the election results - as soon as he can scrounge up some cash.

In an email to supporters Wednesday, McDaniel asked for contributions to an "Election Challenge Fund" to "help me contest this corrupt election."

"We have a long fight ahead of us. I know exactly how long and frustrating court battles can be, but I believe this will be worth it," he wrote. "There is too much at stake to back down from this fight. The problem is that court cases are expensive, and we don't currently have the resources to mount the legal challenge that this case deserves."

McDaniel called the runoff election a "sham" and accused Cochran of stealing the election with illegal votes from liberal Democrats. He claims to have found thousands of irregularities in the voting process already.

He announced plans to scrutinize the voting just hours after his defeat last week. McDaniels' camp has indicated they believe some Democrats broke the law by voting in the Democratic primary before supporting Cochran in the runoff, which is illegal.

Meanwhile, Cochran's campaign is fending off reports from a conservative blogger that they attempted to buy votes in Lauderdale County, according to the Clarion-Ledger. Charles Johnson of GotNews.com reports that a Cochran staffer was told to offer black voters in the Meridian, Miss., area $15 in exchange for a vote for Cochran.

While the staffer, Steve Fielder, claims he wasn't paid a promised $16,000 for his work, the Cochran campaign said he was offered $600 for standard get-out-the-vote work which was not properly completed.

And the story will keep changing until Barbour/Cochran find one that works.

penelopesire and I made some progess today against the LSM on Twitter. I got Election Law Blog to acknowledge the three examples of fraud I sent him so he would stop staying “no proof.”

Still haven’t heard back from mcdanielvolunteer@tynerlawfirm.com. Tick-tock.

The Super PAC is run by Henry Barbour, a Republican National Committee (RNC) committeeman and nephew of former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour—who has offered financial support for the PAC, as well. The group has been at the center of much of the campaign hullabaloo since earlier this year when it received what conservative super lawyer Cleta Mitchell—who represents the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund (TPPCF), which supports McDaniel—alleged was an illegal bank loan.

On Jan. 29—within days in either direction of many late January donations from current and former Trustmark executives to Cochran’s campaign—Trustmark National Bank made a $250,000 loan to the pro-Cochran Super PAC, which is run by former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour’s nephew Henry Barbour.

The PAC and the bank argue that the loan was secured by a certificate of deposit by a third party, though neither will divulge the identity of the CD’s owner. Mitchell has alleged that whether or not it was secured by a deposit from a mysterious benefactor, the arrangement comprises an illegal in-kind donation.

Rickey Cole, the chairman of the Mississippi Democratic Party, says Cochran’s allies are paying Democratic operatives to help get out the vote with a questionable tactic.

“Pete Perry” – the chairman of the Hinds County Republican Party – “is paying James ‘Scooby Doo’ Warren thousands of dollars to funnel to black preachers and others to get-out-the-vote for Cochran,” Cole wrote in a Facebook message sent to a top aide of state Sen. Chris McDaniel’s campaign, Ric McCluskey, just after midnight Tuesday.

“Large sums of cash are being passed around. These guys are old school ‘walking around money’ vote buyers,” Cole wrote in the message, obtained by Breitbart News, adding, “Need some out of state media to put some heavy scrutiny on Pete asap.” Continue reading;

Not a word. I guess they’ve got all the volunteers they need. I tweeted (<-— such a stupid word) a question asking if anyone had gotten a response. Someone retweeted (<—— really stupid) it so I guess I’m not the only one.

You have any news?

McDaniel announced he is offering up to 15 bounties valued at $1,000 each for evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in voter fraud on or leading up to the June 24, 2014, Republican primary runoff election in Mississippi.

leading to the arrest and conviction

*************

At best wouldn’t that take a few months until conclusion?
But the arrest would get the ball rolling.
