BOSTON (WHDH) - As the Boston Pops Fourth of July Spectacular approaches officials in charge of planning have decided to move the festivities to Thursday night, July 3.

"We think tomorrow, the 3rd, gives us the best opportunity to get the live show and fireworks off,” Mass. State Police Col. Tim Alben said.

The decision to move the Boston Pops concert and fireworks over the Esplanade was based on the expected track of Tropical Storm Arthur.

"It's not optimal, we wish it were, but we've got to deal with this,” Alben said.

Storrow Drive will be closed at noon on Thursday and the Mass. Ave Bridge will close at 6 p.m.

The secure area on the Esplanade will not be opened until 5 p.m. Thursday but the rest of the park will remain open.

If rain causes problems the fireworks could be postponed to Saturday but the concert would be cancelled.

The big name democrats have been tweeting about civil rights all day as if it was what Independence day is all about.

This is all a prelude to the usual climate change assertions. Most of those asserting this nonsense either live or were educated in Boston.

Has anybody noticed that Labor Day, Memorial Day and other holidays always happen to fall on a Monday? How convenient, we are always getting a three-day weekend.

Some towns have been doing the fireworks on
July 3 for years.

It’s the eve of the holiday.

Holiday eves are special.

Well, if not then we have to side with folks that think things are askew. In this day and age that wouldn’t be all that surprising. I still like to extend the benefit of the doubt until it makes no sense to. And with track records being what they are, is there any such time?

I agree with that. Santa Monica (Moscow on the Pacific) chose to change their fireworks display to before dawn instead of after dusk.

It solved a lot of issues with elevated crime after the display at night. Not a bad idea for a whack-job of a city.

What you say is true. Also, the stage is enclosed in a half
shell, which makes it open to the elements.
