ix members of the Climate Summer 2014 Team Western Mass. have been bicycling across the state and will be at the farmers' market here Thursday (July 3) to highlight concerns about the proposed expansion of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline.

The expansion of the pipeline in the Northeastern United States is believed to include a route through Franklin County, though a company spokesman said routes haven't been finalized and the company is committed to public safety and protection of the environment.

Tennessee Gas Pipeline is part of the Kinder-Morgan company of Houston, Texas.

The proposed mainline route of the company's Northeast Expansion Project is between Wright, New York, and Dracut, Mass., cutting across about 180 miles through the northern half of Massachusetts, including Franklin, Worcester and Berkshire counties

"The pipeline is a threat to the health of communities and the land surrounding it," Sordellini said.

The Climate Summer team is part and funded by A Better Future Project, a nonprofit in Boston, she said.

The bike-riders began in Wilmot, N.H. and rode to Lowell before Holyoke. From here, they will go Northampton and Amherst, eventually to Plainfield,, Pittsfield, Cummington, Shelburne and Deerfield, with a plan of winding up in early August in Greenfield, she said.

The proposed pipeline would be a high-pressure device made of steel and buried only 3 feet underground. The high-pressure nature of the pipeline and the fact that all pipes can leak add to concerns, she said.

Another concern is the leakage of methane from the compressor stations built along the pipeline to maintain pressure of the flow, she said.

Let me guess, instead of this pipeline windmills would solve our energy needs, right?

I wonder how many birds natural gas or petroleum pipeline have killed?

Not everyone believes there is a need for extra natural gas capacity, Sordellini said, as there is still capacity to be exploited in existing pipelines. And supporters like herself see prices increasing to support installation of the pipeline rather than dropping as Kinder Morgan contends.

Good portrait of a typical clueless progressive idiot. Not only is Georgette Sordellini foolishly ignorant about basic economics, but she is also dangerously ignorant about history as recent as last winter, where capacity constraints caused huge electricity price spikes.

Also, what is this "not everyone believes" talking point? Not everyone believes that Obama's ugly agenda benefits America (to put it mildly) - what exactly is Georgette Sordellini doing to fight Obama's unlawful and destructive actions? How about a bike ride for that, Georgette?

From their disinformation spreading website:

“Climate Summer is a leadership development program for young adults who learn by doing. Participants engage communities across New England as educators, activists, and organizers as they travel exclusively by bicycle, calling for action on climate change and fossil fuels in communities across the region.”

These poor schnooks think they are doing a good thing.
They probably don't realize that they are acting as modern day Stasi or Brown Shirts.

...or maybe they do. Socialists are all the same it seems.

We don’t need energy. I can watch TV by candle light. Why do we need natural gas? I get heat from the furnace and cook over a blue flame that comes right out of the stove.

I used to ride dirt bikes on their gas lines when I was a kid. They have a gas line at the end of my street—in a very affluent suburb of Springfield. You would never know it was there unless you knew what you were looking for.

These people are idiots.
