When ISIS throws everything they got at the capital, will the Iraqi Army simply melt away?

The brave Sir Robin Iraqi Army melted away when the US Army was making its way to Baghdad. That was when Saddam was a fearsome figure, and when punishment for desertion would be ... let's say, uncomfortable.

Today the Iraqi Army is not even sure who is in charge in Baghdad anymore. When ISIS makes their move, the rulers of Baghdad will be on the first (and probably last) airplane out of there, direct to Europe. Who in his right mind would be fighting, killing, and dying for ... for who? For what ideals? They are all Muslims there; and a common man doesn't really care one way or another, as long as ISIS is not too bloodthirsty. (There are some indications that they might be.) That ancient land saw many rulers over many centuries of written history. Nothing of what is happening today is new there. Just another tyrant replaced by another tyrant, same as the old one.

China said on Thursday it was preparing to help evacuate a small number of people working for Chinese companies in Iraq, and repeated an offer to help Iraq fight terrorism though it declined to say if it would provide military support.

China has long upheld the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and has not, in recent decades, sent military forces to directly intervene in foreign crises, though its military does participate in U.N. peace keeping operations and anti-piracy patrols off Somalia.

Meanwhile they have been making deals with Russia.

If the fields have been damaged, or if the flow of oil gets disrupted for a long time due to intense fighting over the region. Its probably the one of the few regions the shiites will fight hard for.

So far it doesn't appear that Shiites are in fighting mood. It's impossible to tell conclusively from the other side of the planet. We'll know soon enough. ISIS cannot remain in holding pattern forever - they are losing momentum with every passing day, and the regime in Baghdad is receiving arms from the USA and Russia.

I suggest they organize a heavily armed welcoming committee.

I think where we made the mistake was, after bombing Iraq and Afghanistan, we stayed so many years babysitting. Should have bombed the targets and leave. It will take them a few years to regroup. Then, one little threat from them, bomb again.

We can never turn them. We just need to save ourselves.

This article seems to have vanished from the FT site. Wonder why?

Thats the idea.
Either bombing or some other limited do-able objectives.

But the GWBush, Cheney, McCain, Grahamnesty Republicans were not thinking of those at the time 2003 of selling the invasion.

No, they were busy making the sales pitch for the war, it would be cheap, easy, happy, like liberating France.

The sales pitch for Iraq invasion and occupation was like Obama’s sales pitch for Obamacare. 99% win only 1% loses. But in both cases we all lost(except Federal workers) .

Hadn’t thought about that. Maybe they’re working with the Russians who are now about to provide air cover. Wouldn’t surprise me if they already have advisors there. Completely cut out soetoro and the Americans.

That is Kacka and you know it.
They were correct on the weapons of Mass Destruction which were sent to Libya with Russia’s help while we went through all of this “coalition bullsh#it. Bush may have been wrongheaded or too optimistic about these heathens but he was/is not a brutha like zero.

But it is interfering with the claims of other nations in the South China Sea and building man made islands to bolster their own claims, and start drilling in Vietnamese territory because they fell like it. They are certainly willing to fight over oil.

It depends on what you call WMDs.

Obviously Bush/Cheney/Rummy decided that warning that Iraq had WWI surplus mustard gas wouldn't scare Americans into approving of invading Iraq.

So they went on Sunday shows warning of coming mushroom clouds over US cities if we didnt invade, and claiming that we would be welcomed as liberators, and that Iraq would pay for its own reconstruction.

Much like Obama with Obamacare sales pitch. All free and happy/

....”much of what we are doing abroad is wrong”....

To those leading the charge it's not a matter of right or wrong, that simply isn't even a consideration. It's about who/what nations, and nation groups, are going to run things when the dust finally settles.

US/EU, China and Russia are all players in this game and each attempting to sabotage the others advances. While they all attempt to court the Asian groups to side with them.

What we're seeing is a re-structuring of the nations to conform to the New World Order agenda.... The US knows it has to neutralize Russia's relationship with the EU....and that Ukraine is the pivot point....which is why they have no problem bombing the daylights out of the East no matter the death toll....Russia knows this.

Iran and the Saudi's are fighting Proxy wars among themselves to see who will be the Leader of their Caliphate....

And IMO the massive illegals now coming over our borders will eventually show the plan for the America's to be one block. The uprising in Argentina is also our doing.

The game is all about the World Stage and who gets the power and revenues and resources...and with this ultimate control.

China will do what it has been doing for several years now. They will sit it out, capitalize on our mistakes, and sign an agreement with whichever side wins. This is how the US used to conduct itself when it was a rising power.

RE:”. I lost four people in my little town from 9/11.”

Its really terrible that I must break to you what the rest of the world learned nearly a decade ago, but Saddam had zero to do with 9/11. Talk radio was just making that up.

I was hoping that no-one still believed that rediculus claim.

No more sending millions of Americans to fight for muzzies who hate us, and certainly not to fight for Iran in this fight,

They got their own suicide bombers. Let them give their own kids lives for nothing for a change.

Yes, I was duped into voting for W just like you. Now, I think that the Bush presidency was just another con job by our political class, the camel’s nose under the tent.

As far as homosexuals in the military, the republicans caved on that as well. Republicans will also eventually cave on immigration too, then our country will be overrun by 20 million illegals and another 20-30 million more of their relatives who will surely follow them.

I listened to an interview from a Christian Doctor from Syria on the radio, and he was saying that Western countries don’t understand that their form of democracy doesn’t work in some places on earth.

He said that having a strong dictator to keep the radical Islamists out allowed everybody to live in relative peace.

And unfortunately we learned that in Iraq and Afghanistan the hard way.,

It was such a wonderful dream that we give them the vote and next thing its apple pie and church on Sunday, but now we know it was delusional.

Notice that the Chinese know how to move into a country for $$$ for themselves.
