Is there common ground for supporters of gun rights and gun control to stop random, senseless shootings in this country? Perhaps.
Hours after the awful shooting at Seattle Pacific University, Mayor Ed Murray appeared on campus and said, Once again the epidemic of gun violence has come to Seattle the epidemic of gun violence that is haunting this nation. Other politicians, activists and liberal clergy echoed his words.
It will surprise the mayor and many other people to learn that gun violence isnt rising in America, its falling. In fact, its plummeting. Gun deaths are down nearly 40 percent in the last 20 years, despite an increase in population and a rise in gun ownership. The Bureau of Justice Statistics points out an even more dramatic number: Non-fatal gun crimes free-fell 69 percent during that same period.

Gender? I think I read somewhere that some social web site (facebook) now has like 50+ gender possibilities. HUH?
Like it or not, folks will get guns, by hook or by crook.
Lefty take: Anyone who wants to carry a weapon must be crazy; get the weapons out of their hands!
Except homosexuals and their offshoots (pedophiles, necrophiles, zoophiles...).
Any one who can't be trusted to carry a personal defense weapon should not be running around loose.
LOL! Correction: Anyone who wants a weapon must be crazy.......
Absolutely! Simply give everyone a test based on personality and knowledge. If you're a collectivist Democrat or other form of mental defective, you're banned for life from owning a firearm. All others can buy all the guns and ammo they can pay for, background-check-free. Everyone gets to live by their stated values, and mass shootings would disappear overnight!
“I think I am Hispanic now. Some of my mothers ancestors were the Spanish settlers in Pensacola. Since what you think you are now works for gender, why not ethnicity?”
I’ve thought about the race/ethnicity thing too.
I have known ancestors who came from the Channel Islands, with a surname that is probably from Catalonia. Catalonia spans from Northeastern Spain into Southeastern France.
Of the two brothers, one had a first name which is definitely “Hispanic” in origin.
Based on that genealogy research, which I can fully document, I am Hispanic.
The two brothers changed their surname upon immigrating from Channel Islands “England” to Maine in 1671, from Ricarte, to Ricker.
It has been fairly common throughout American history for non Anglos to alter their names to appear more Anglo.
The two brothers George and Maturin were killed by Indians in Maine, in 1706.
The English Channel Islands had been something of a refuge over time, for people leaving bad situations. I think French/Spanish protestants and jews fled to there, during the Inquisitions.
“The rest are free to live at home with family but are still nuttier than a fruitcake and need serious guidance. “
And when they act up and the family calls 911 and the cops wind up shooting the poor guy (and his dog/s) , that is tallied as a result of....GUN VIOLENCE!
