Radio show host Edward Woodson, took to the streets of South Florida to ask its citizens what we celebrate on the 4th of July.
We need to seriously examine what we teach our kids in schools, and immigrants in the so-called civics tests they are required to take before becoming U.S. citizens.
Brace yourselves...

I'm not fan of corrupt unions (and trust me, teacher unions are corrupt). But this is not a union problem at all. It is a central administrator problem.
A number of years ago, a major public school district close to where I live dropped their civics requirement. Imagine that, learning about how the US government works was no longer mandatory! Instead, students could choose from a list of options: US civics, or world cultures, or black studies, or Latino studies (I'm sure you can see what's happening here).
This was entirely the history supervisor's decision. Almost every history teacher was outraged, and many of them filed complaints. It didn't matter. The supervisor stuck with his decision. The School Board (and the voters) did nothing.
Exactly!
Unless the respondents were chosen randomly, the sample is not representative. It’s entertainment, not research.
I dont doubt that many Americans are weak in their knowledge of US history. But these clips are edited more for shock value than anything else.
Rant spoiler.

Thank you! And let me add something else. Often these types of videos are done for more sinister reasons: to make a group of people look evil or stupid.
The liberal media is particularly good at this. They'll goad a few conservatives into saying something inappropriate. Then the lib's will say: "look! Conservatives want to take away your right to clean air (or whatever)."
I want Common Core. I just want to be in charge of writing it.
That’s why it’s important to call out the media, when they use such tactics — regardless of whose ox is being gored. It’s better to make a stand for the principle of honest journalism, than to resign ourselves to fighting endless rearguard actions against it.
Or so I've heard.
lol
Excuse me .. the Administrators are MEMBERS OF THE UNIONS.
The NEA has been very aggressive in putting through all those class changes you were talking about. This is why the youth of today do not know American History; unless they are home schooled, or they go to a Christian or Charter school.
The unions are aggressively supporting Common Core, to further dumb-down our children.
And .. ALL TEACHERS (whether functioning administratively or not), are members of Teacher’s unions.
Why do you think that no teacher ever gets fired ..?? On occasion, there is an administrator who will do the right thing; but it’s more likely the union will pressure the school to keep a terrible teacher.
No, they are not. The administrators supervise union members, and they determine what's being taught. But the administrators most certainly are not union members. No more than a GM vice president would be an auto workers union member.
The NEA has been very aggressive in putting through all those class changes you were talking about.
Now you're getting somewhere. The NEA leadership is more than just corrupt. They are big-government socialists. Remember, we are talking about the union leadership here, the folks that sit in fancy offices all day and do no real teaching. Sure, there are some crazy ultra-lib teachers. But many more are either conservatives, or JFK-type democrats. Yet the NEA leadership keeps getting re-elected. I really do suspect voter fraud, although it could be just plain old apathy.
its more likely the union will pressure the school to keep a terrible teacher.
Well, that's the job of the union. Just as it's your lawyer's job to defend you, regardless. The problem is that most administrators are lazy, and are cowards. They don't want to bother with a lawsuit, so they take the easy way out.
And, yes, that bothers me. I don't want to have to work next to a bad teacher. Because I end up doing my job, and his job.
Well .. maybe they don’t have to pay dues .. but they do take orders from the unions. I’ve seen it happen time and time again; especially in grammar schools.
