GOP Rep. Bill Cassidy, who is challenging Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in one of this year’s most competitive Senate races, revealed late Thursday that his 17-year-old daughter became pregnant out of wedlock and is due later this summer.

Cassidy’s campaign revealed the news with a one-paragraph statement to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, published late Thursday afternoon as the July Fourth holiday weekend began.

“Earlier this year, Laura and I learned we will become grandparents this summer,” Cassidy, 56, said in the statement. “Our children have been the greatest blessing of our lives and we welcome our grandchild as a joyous addition to our family. Our daughter now faces a more challenging future than her peers. She has our unconditional love and support.”

His daughter is a rising senior at a high school in Baton Rouge.

Kudos to this family for welcoming the baby instead of killing it for political gain, which some would have done.

So? If anything, his reaction will be refreshing in comparison to all those crying for abortion.

“Yes, but the media holds Republicans to 1950s standards, and liberals to the standards described in Dante’s Inferno.”

Well said!

Wouldn’t have happened if the male sexists on the SCOTUS hadn’t taken away her BC.

They forced her to get pregnant by taking away her ‘options’ and giving it to her employer.

Now the women will arise and take back what is theirs:
Their reproductive rights!

HILLARY 2016!

It takes two to tango and the young mans life is radically changed as well. Hey kids, get ready to grow up quick. God Bless the family for keeping the baby.

So, did he pay for her abortion, or did he welcome his unexpected, but loved grandchild into the family? That is really the issue.

People make mistakes, she’s keeping the baby and he is accepting of that. Her life will go on and her baby will have a life.

What does the media want him to do, have his daughter stoned as an adulterer?

I would rather have someone who loves his daughter enough to accept that she made a mistake and still love both her and her unborn child.

Nope, it's not the 1950s. In the '50s, they'd have sent her off to Aunt Martha's in Peoria or somewhere glamorous for the summer or winter, you get the idea. She returns to finish out the semester.

Now, however, you send her over to the local Planned Parenthood with your MasterCard and tell her to "take care of 'it.'" She returns later that afternoon and goes shopping the next day with her girlfriends.

According to a few freepers this means his political career is over, his daughter should be hated for destroying it and she should hang her head in shame forever & ever.

This isn’t l950.

Back then they would go to a different town to have the child, and then either put it up for adoption or bring it back to be raised as a sibling.

My oldest great grandchild was born out of wedlock. When my granddaughter found the prospective groom in bed with an old girlfriend two weeks before the wedding, needless to say the wedding was off. The baby, however was just getting started...

Like this man's daughter, my granddaughter faces a rougher road with fewer options, but killing her baby was not even considered.

What the heck is a “rising senior”?

I reckon that's one with a bun in the oven, doc.

Piffle.

Is it a boy or a girl? That's the real question!

This is good as it proves that not only the candidate, but the family is Pro Life. Best of all, there are lots of Catholic Pro Life votes in the south and lots of Protestant Pro Life votes in the north.

Even in New Orleans the people are Pro Life with much of the population is opposed to artificial means of birth control.
