Will the United States ever be free again?

As we all embark on our Fourth of July holiday weekend – stuffing our faces with hot dogs and watching fireworks – it’s too easy to forget what we’re celebrating. We don’t remember the truly horrible beginnings of our nation. Specifically, I’m referring to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, those 56 brave men who pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to give us liberty.

These men weren’t stupid. They knew what would happen by affixing their names on that document. Legend has it that the elegant and oversized “John Hancock” signature wasn’t prominent because Mr. Hancock was vain. Rather, it was a poke in the eye – “Take THAT, King George” – so the monarch could read the name without spectacles.

Whether or not the legend is true, it says something about the signers. In the mists of time and the gloss of hero-worship, it’s easy to forget that the Founding Fathers weren’t declaring independence from a foreign government. They were declaring independence from their own government. By signing that document, they were committing treason during an unforgiving age when treason meant endlessly ugly ways to be tortured, persecuted, or killed.

I do read the papers. Sounds like you need to get out of Manch, or Nashua aka Taxachusetts north.

The open primary is easy to rectify; select candidates via convention. As the VA gop decided to do a few years back. But the R’s and D’s don’t realllly want that, as they would have to pay for their own nomination process rather than sticking the taxpayers with the bill.

As for license and restaurant taxes, you have no idea how good you have it. In VA we have localities charging upwards of 15% meals tax. And license taxes...the plates are only about $35. But you have to pay local property taxes and vehicle fees. Those are 3-5% of the value of the vehicle every year. The state offsets some of that, but the offset is going down. Plus sales tax on everything, and a state income tax. And property taxes on real estate. Depending where you’re at, those work out to 1 to 2% of value. Every year.

Funny thing is that VA is nowhere near the worst when it comes to taxes. So given a choice, I’ll take NH taxes any day of the week, thanks.

It's Taxachusetts north all the way to Laconia, nowadays. I love how people 'assume' that they know where I am. M*ssholes and New Yuckers are overrunning the state...FSP WILL fail, I can assure you.

Same in corrupt soviet Red Hampshire...it can cost you $HUNDREDS$ to register a car of recent vintage. Then there are the heating costs...

I reserved my moving van today...my wife was born here, her parents still live here, but unless they move south; she will never see them again.

My great great great uncle was America’s Uncle Sam, 1812, Troy New York....”

Ah, but there’s the rub Al...your “Uncle Sam” didn’t run away. You did.

There ya go again, making friends and influencing people where ever you go.

Put a sock in it, sport.

Dawg Pound... WOOF!

The first revolution in this country started because the citizens were being unfairly taxed to enhance and build a bigger government for the king. Same thing in happening now and we are almost at the breaking point again.

The number of people complaining about high taxation is well under 50%. Most people now are net receivers of government payments or services. These takers are not complaining because they're -- well, happy about it. The producers are -- well, busy producing so they aren't about to revolt.

Going to have to come up with some reason other than "high taxation".

What you’re seeing is the combative, after-a-bottle-of-wine Al.

He posts from the beach in the Philippines, whining about the “United Socialist States of America”, while at the same time absolutely dependent on socialism for the very roof over his head and the food on his table; otherwise he’s absolutely penniless.

He refuses to answer the question “If you had a magic wand you could use to totally eliminate all traces of socialism in the world, would you do it?”.

He’s also got a four-year-old son who has a better-than-50% chance of attending his own father’s funeral before reaching age 18.

Well that is true if you are talking about income tax but there are many more taxes being added for individual items. That list is growing every year because the government is spending all income tax revenues just to pay off the interest on the Federal debt and needs more money to fund the huge government. Almost everyone is affected by these additional taxes. See the list below:

No, I am 70, and I paid my dues throughout my life. I was always self employed in business, but also active in every civic organization such as CAP, Red Cross, Civil Defence, and others. I am now retired and living whats left of my life seeing the world. If that chaps your ass, too bad.
Be sure and sign up at the “dog in a manger” club...a group of sad sacks that hate my guts because I am not back in Obozoland feeling their pain. Do not forget, the founding fathers or their ancestors left THEIR home countries to seek a better life.
One last word...Pray that America will return to being the country that I grew up in, but the fact that Obozo wes REelected tells me all that I want to know.....Have a nice day.

It is true, a fact of life. We have been created to be slaves.

To who is to be our master? To who will we give our allegiance?

Our life needs to recognize we will be slaves. Our life then needs to make a determined response to who we will accept as our master. There is but one and only one response. Everything else in life will be determined by these responses. Make the right choice and you will be free, make the wrong choice and you will be forever slave to your own mind.

Enjoy!

You are pathetic. Our founding fathers’ ancestors left England because it was a monarchy with a King. They established a Republic so that we could live free from tyranny. Obama thinks he is King because he is a narcissist who thinks he is omnipotent. Are you changing your son’s diapers or is he changing yours? Give it up, you have shown your true colors and they are not red, white, and blue.

Yes, enjoy your life under King Obozo. I choose to live my life as I please, seeing the rest of the world in my senior years.
I love America as much as anyone. Why else would I be on FR every day since the year it was founded. I do not however HAVE to live in an Obamination. There is absolutly nothing that you or I can do to fix it. You are no more then a barking dog. By the way, life there is only going to get worse. Enjoy all of your new immigrant kids from south of the boarder. I am sure Obozo will make good litle Marxist out of them.

Hey look DAWGS!! The little coward is back! You took a run out powder to the turd world to live because you made a mess of your financial position while in America and you HAVE to live where you do, (as your only admitted income, your meager monthly SS check), forces you to and you have no choice. You do not “love America”. You bash it constantly, you never stop. We are the “USSA”...you encourage other patriotic FReepers to have an “escape plan” for running like the scared little rabbit you are. The DAWGS are sorry that we do not feel the pain that you do, (pain dulled daily by your admitted one bottle per day habit), as you exist in the turd world. You are a gutless little scared mouse. We will see how tough you talk when the muzzies and their dull blades show up in your turd world. We will see how you will cry, beg, and snivel for America’s help.....help that will not be sent. When are you going to post WKU MAN’S supposed ‘quote’ LIAR? C’MON....POST IT NOW!!!!

Yep, there ya go, “living your life as you please”, having forsaken your most important responsibility as a human being.

Seeing the rest of the world? More like “Stuck in a little Philippine village, my world consists of whereever the local bus service can take me”.

You’re not fooling anyone but yourself.

Still waiting to hear whether you would completely eliminate socialism throughout the world if you could.
