Baghdad (AFP) - Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the enigmatic self-proclaimed "caliph" of a state straddling Iraq and Syria, is increasingly seen as more powerful than Al-Qaeda's chief.
The leader of the powerful Islamic State (IS) militant group was on June 29 declared "caliph" in an attempt to revive a system of rule that ended nearly 100 years ago with the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
In a video posted online on Saturday, purportedly the first known footage of Baghdadi, he ordered Muslims to obey him during a Ramadan sermon delivered at a mosque in the northern militant-held Iraqi city of Mosul.

Who’s yur Baghdadi?

Forward! to the 7th century.
IMHO, this egotistical move might be Abu’s undoing. Normally, you don’t declare an empire until you have an empire. As of now he doesn’t control even one major city. And there are many jealous competitors about.
35 years ago, I worked in a high-end metal shop. Made parts for nuclear medicine machines, etc.. We once got an order to make fancy hanging lamps and sconces destined for a new mosque in saudi arabia. Had I known, I would have done the final polishing with a pork roast!
Hopefully, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has just met his 72 virgins, actually horney male camels, who were waiting for him.
Iraqi Isis Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ‘Severely Injured and Flees to Syria’

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Sunni militant outfit Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis), is said to have been severely injured in the raging battle forcing him to flee to neighbouring Syria.
According to a report in the Iraqi news network Al Sumaria, the insurgent leader was injured during a raid led by Iraq’s Shiite-led security forces in the west of Anbar.
“The Iraqi security forces carried out an operation in the city of Qaim on the border with Syria based on accurate intelligence and with the help of the Air Force where the leader of ISIL, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi was seriously injured,” said Haidar al-Shara, a representative of the international parliament in Iraq.
However, the report has so far not been independently verified. If confirmed, it will be a severe blow to the militant group which has been marching on several Iraqi cities.
The Iraqi official said: “After being hit, al-Baghdadi, with a range of elements of his organisation fled into Syrian territory because of its proximity to Qaim,” adding: “al-Baghdadi might be killed as a result of the severity of his injuries.”
Read earlier here on FR that this scumbag got his arse shot off and had to didi out of Iraq to get medical assistance...
Great news, if true!
7 seconds... GMTA!
If the jurisdiction is now geographical (like a california) then it should attract hundreds of thousands (millions?) of the world's Islamists who see it their jihad to force the peoples of the world into submission.
IMO this is another kind of rope-a-dope.
How many MOABs will it take to dissuade them?
Better to be 7 seconds late than never.
Good news if true. Have a great day.
What is the bounty on his head?

The figure is good but they want info leading to his arrest. I was thinking along the lines of his actual head in exchange for the reward. Thanks for the reply though!
Yes, an aggregated enemy is a gift too good to refuse.
I wasn’t sure if the supposed “severe injury” of this Baghdadi guy was real, or if it was a bit of disinformation. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Probably just a way to get the mark on his face that is predicted for the Mahadi.(beast?)
these freakin' maroons are trying to sound bad with names like "bag-daddy?"
Who knows? I’d be reluctant to trust anything that comes out of there, though.
Is that a Screamin’ Eagle patch on the one helmet?
My brother was a Screamin’ Eagle, 101st.
