Court documents filed by the U.S. Justice Department in the criminal case against Benghazi attack suspect Ahmed Abu Khatallah provide unprecedented details about the evolution of the assault and further shatter the Obama administration's initial claim that it sprouted from protests over an anti-Islam film.
The narrative that the video played a role continues to live on, with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton saying recently that some of the attackers may indeed have been influenced by the online video.
But the Justice Department's court filings make clear that at least those spearheading the attack were part of a "conspiracy," one that involved several members of the Ansar al-Sharia "Islamic extremist militia."
A government motion filed Tuesday seeking Khatallah's detention provides some of the greatest detail to date on the suspect's alleged role.
The motion says that in the days preceding the attack, the defendant "voiced concern and opposition to the presence of an American facility in Benghazi." According to the motion, a group of 20 or more "armed men," including militia members, assembled outside the U.S. compound at 9:45 p.m. the night of Sept. 11, 2012, and "aggressively breached" the gate.
They carried rifles, handguns and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
After breaching the gate, they stole a U.S. vehicle, "forcibly entered" buildings and stole U.S. property.

On to impeachment.
Besides the lying about the event...there's the lying about protecting the place.
Reading between the lines, I'd say we had knowledge of an impending event.
And imagine them picking 9-11...
We should have been on a worldwide alert rather than a "gotta get to Vegas" alert.
I don’t watch Fox or TV news much. Are the good people there crying for an explanation by Obama to the American public for his lies about the video, the apology commercial to Pockeestahn, and an apology from Hillary Clinton to lying to the faces of the grieving families????
First, we simply MUST CRY FOR OBAMA TO ADMIT AND APOLOGIZE TO US FOR THESE LIES.
HE MUST ADDRESS THIS AND WE MUST PUSH FOR IT.
IOW 0bama’s minions and himself were a bit frugal with the truth ....
You obviously don't understand NARCISSISM !
It's all about YOU !! ; others don't matter !
You have to control the narrative because you are the center of your own life .
Apologize for what ? Lies ?... how many times has OBadinga apologized for anything ?
There is always somebody else to BLAME .. for your own faults.
We still hear all about "It's Bush's Fault" even six years later ..
That's a classic demonstration of narcissism
No need to read between the lines.
There was no surprise about the attack. There was no 'failure of intel.' The attack was predicted in precise detail a month before it occurred. The draw down of security had to be intentional.
Everyone is concentrating on the video lie....and forgetting the stand down order.
Anyone interested in the Hillary-Benghazi connection and the famous video should read what Edward Klein has to say about it in “Blood Feud”.
In a nutshell: ‘Twas Obama’s idea to blame it on the video. Hillary was against it. Bill Clinton saw through it as well. Obama wanted Hillary to do the 5 Sunday shows. She declined. Petraeus declined as well.
But Hillary nevertheless supported the policy once it was set and put out her news release blaming the video as ordered by Obama.
Could be true. And maybe not. Your mileage may vary. Depends on how much you trust EdwardvKlein.
Tripoli rescue team told to stand down.
Hicks: Special Forces Furious Upon Being Told to Stand Down video at link
"According to Benghazi whistleblower Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission in Libya, special forces were furious when they were told to stand down during the Benghazi attack. I will quote Lieutenant Colonel Gibson, Hicks told the House Oversight Committee in hearings today, He said, This is the first time in my career that a diplomat has more balls than somebody in the military."
This might be considered a stand down too.
Whistle-blower: Botched talking points hurt FBI probe of Benghazi attack
"Another whistle-blower questioned Wednesday why more military assets were not deployed sooner during the Benghazi terror attack. Mark Thompson, a former Marine and official with the State Department's Counterterrorism Bureau, said he was rebuffed by the White House when he asked for a specialized team -- known as a FEST team -- to be deployed. This is a unit made of special operations personnel, diplomatic security, intelligence and other officers."
Here is a third way a "stand down" policy was implemented IMO.
Blow-by-Blow: How Obama & Hillary Left Americans to Die
"Nordstrom further testified in writing that Hillary Clinton waived security requirements for the Benghazi consulate despite high and critical threat levels in the six categories of security standards established under the Overseas Security Policy Board and the Secure Embassy Construction and Counterterrorism Act of 1999. The waiver can only be authorized by the Secretary of State, who cannot delegate that responsibility to someone else. If the Secretary of State did not waive these requirements, who did so by ordering occupancy of the facilities in Benghazi and Tripoli? Nordstrom wrote."
I would like to hear Ed Klein explain the apologies for the video from the Cairo embassy that happened close to 12 hours before the Benghazi attack occurred. Was that 0bama too? Was he usurping Hillary’s authority over U.S. embassies?
Don’t forget that out government lied and targeted a person, put him and his families safety in jeopardy, and then unjustly threw him in jail on false pretenses of a probation violation.
