There is a scandal going on at the Internal Revenue Service, but it has nothing to do with Lois Lerner or her missing emails.
No, the real scandal is what Republicans did to cripple the agency when virtually no one was looking. Since the broad Tea Party-driven spending cuts of 2010, the agencys budget has been cut by 14 percent after inflation is considered, leading to sharply reduced staff, less enforcement of the tax laws and poor taxpayer service.
The budget cutters are also trying to prevent the agency from performing its new job of collecting higher taxes on the rich to pay for health care reform, and distributing health insurance subsidies for low- and moderate-income people, many of whom will now be covered for the first time.

Cry me a river!!! -- Read the article, you have to read it to get the full effect -- it laments the cut in the funding of the IRS!
They need to cut if 50%, and if they chose not to collect from “the rich” like Warren Buffet, that is a CHOICE.
“OK....it looks like all of the agencies have representatives here. Now, what can each of our federal agencies do to help the Democrat Party today? IRS?”
“We can go after conservatives.”
“Good! That’s the spirit!”
If that doesn't shock you enough, read the comments of the readers of this rag. They are all in love with the IRS. They think the IRS is the greatest thing since Obama took office.
The New York office of the DNC is once again on record.
This is what they do to the Benghazi story. They blame it on republicans for not having given money for security
If some patriotic conservative runs ( patriotic - meaning doesn’t care what the NYT says) on a ‘let’s get rid of the IRS’ message, what will the NYT do?
Russia has a flat 13% personal income tax.
“Personal income tax (PIT) is levied individually normally at 13 percent. There is no joint filing. Employers withhold income taxes, thus the taxpayers whose only taxable income was paid by employer do not need to file a tax returnexcept to claim a refund for itemized deductions. “
Also —in Russia there is basically NO capital gains tax, if you owned the asset longer than 3 years.
“Capital gains from asset sales are taxable only if the seller owned the asset for less than 3 years. “
Maybe it’s time to start learning Russian and find out the immigration policy of Russia...
The IRS budget has been cut for years. The NYT is just NOW reporting this? I wonder why...
“The IRS budget has been cut for years. The NYT is just NOW reporting this? I wonder why...”
I think it’s mostly because they want a bigger budget, since they were put in charge of the obamacare taxes...
“The budget cutters are also trying to prevent the agency from performing its new job of collecting higher taxes on the rich to pay for health care reform, and distributing health insurance subsidies for low- and moderate-income people, many of whom will now be covered for the first time.”
Start by ordering its elimination and separately build a new tax system without “tainted” current employees.

Russia has an 18% VAT. And about a million squat toilets. Not a place we should be emulating.
cutting the IRS budget is nothing compared to the annihilation of people that happens when the IRS throws its weight around
Shutting down conservative political organizations in advance of the 2010 and 2012 elections was a partisan witchhunt designed to sway both elections.
I stopped reading when I saw NY Times.
LEAVE THE IRS ALONE!
This means that the NYT knows that there’s big trouble ahead for the IRS..this is a bad attempt to deflect..
